This book is absolute insanity. It's kind of genius how it completely throws the reader off course from the reality of Ashley Cordova's situation. And I mean, like, WAY off course. The story was fantastic and completely captivating; so much so that I didn't mind the somewhat boring main characters. There are so many allusions to the content of Cordova's films, and I WANT TO SEE THEM SO BAD but they're not real, so that sucks. But it's totally believable and it feels real. I wasn't a huge fan of the strange ending on that island thing, but I had a great time reading this book.
So good on so many levels
The main character becoming so engrossed in the story he is chasing that he is convinced he was unknowingly an actor in a horror film...While I am having to remind myself that this book is fiction and not reality !?!
This book is so well written and so beautifully planned and executed

I was hooked, but as if I watched a Cordova movie, I feel had. Incredible imagination and ability to captivate, but there were too many irksome points to look over. I still recommend it as a gripping read.
I was debating between 1 and 2 stars. I have to be honest. I put down the book 1/2 through and never picked it back up. I liked the police reports, photos, etc., but each clue conveniently lands in place. I don't care what happens to any of the characters. Highly disappointed because it was recommended to me by an individual who has similar book tastes.
Good gracious, what a slog that was. I read this one because it was on a spooky books list from BookRiot. Nothing remotely spooky or sinister about it. The insufferable main character wandered from one clue to the next with the help of two sidekicks. He was utterly boring, and that made what should’ve been an attention-grabbing book utterly boring as well. I don’t even know why I kept reading.”, I should’ve DNFed it. I guess I kept hoping for some shocking twist, and my persistence would be rewarded. Big fat nope. This book was an absolute waste of time.
It’s more of a 3.75 rounded down because of superficial issues. It’s a long book but decent. The author has to build up this whole mystique about a film director and I’m not sure it entirely works. Not sure the films and the whole fandom surrounding them felt real. But it was interesting.
2 things that stood out that are totally random and picky, but totally bothered me from the very beginning:
1. Soooo many similes. And while many of them were quite clever, I feel like a little goes a long way AND it just added to the word count needlessly.
2. Soooo many italicized words. And a lot of the time - most of the time?- the emphasis didn’t make sense. But even when it did, if you emphasize too much then the emphasis is pretty ineffectual.
