1st read:
Thia book will not get the 5 stars it deserves just because of how boring the first 100-200 pages were. And yet, everything else was worth it.
James. JAMES. I LOVE JAMES.
The second he appeared I told my friend - whom I was on a phone call with - "I need Will and James to kiss. Enemies to lovers." I was NOT expecting this outcome. I am shocked. I am bewildered.
This is amazing.
I love this book. It's so totally worth it (it becomes SUPER worth it after page 248) and I will recommend it till the day I die.
I am so excited for the next book. Bring it on!!!

Edit: I've decided this book does deserve 5 stars. I forgive the first 200 pages.

2nd read:
I LOVE THIS BOOK I LOVE THIS BOOK I LOVE THIS BOOK.

All of the review after this point will be filled with spoilers, so all I can tell you is to READ THIS BOOK FIRST AND ONLY THEN COME BACK. IT IS WORTH IT. PLEASE.

And now that I've warned you: reading this book a second time, while knowing the outcome of this book is as amazing as I have expected it. The plot twist is so amazingly built into the overarching narrative, to the point that I am not even sure at what point Will actually discovered who he really is. Was it when first speaking to James? When he kissed Katherine? When did he KNOW??
It's such a good book. I need to talk for a moment about how amazing the character development for EVERYONE was for this book. I also love how, when reading back, you see how everyone played their part freakishly well.
Violet wants to fight for the "good guys", when really she just trusts Will and his loyalty to her? amazing. She is literally playing the Lion's part perfectly and she doesn't even know it!! She is literally fully loyal to the fucking Dark King. I just love Violet, and I had to write something about her character. She is literally perfect??? In every single way shape and form?? She is amazing.
James is very obvious in his whole existence. He's very gay to Will, and through that is very gay to the Dark King. As all things are, nothing has changed. This man needs therapy. He and Leraunt (or whatever that bitch's name was) both need the same therapy. "Blonde therapy". I still love him though and he might still be my favorite character.
That Steward boy who is also James' adopted brother is amazing and I love him but I cannot for the life of me remember his name.
Will is just great. I love him. I have nothing to say except every time I think about him I smile like a little child and giggle.

IT'S A GOOD BOOK. GO READ IT.

It gives A darker shade of magic mixed with the Legendborn vibes. Starting this book was like swallowing a handful of sand and trying to push it down, it got better along the way with the last 50 pages being the best part of the book. Characters were very unremarkable and the only one that I felt some kind of connection to was Violet, well and I guess Katherine if you count being extremely annoyed. Plot twists were not twisting - you could see the big reveal a mile away. I didn't hate this book but I definitely did not love it either.

2⭐️.. Just no. First of all.. death by a thousand inner monologues. Way to drag out a story with that shit. And second of all.. throw in a twist that’s so out there it literally doesn’t make any sense, like at all. This book was a goddamn chore to read and I’m so glad it’s over.

I liked the premise of od magic making its way to pseudo modern England. But I found the flow inconsistent and missing opportunities to take time to explore why characters held allegences or friendships.
