Second time through, just as slow-going as the first. The epic fantasy vibes feel so plodding, it's such familiar territory. The characters feel like tropes of themselves. THAT SAID, the twist is indeed quite twisty, and there's potential for the rest of the series to be very different, a commentary on those same epic fantasies, with complex characters and relationships.

4.5

This book is full of emotional and in itself very logical plottwists, friendships and beautiful lore.
With a writing style that seems so honest it really pulls you into the story.

This book must my absolute favourite. The characters are admirable, loveable and with realistic intention.

I wish I could read this book again for the first time but I also might read it again to see the foreshadowing of major plot points in new light.

Oooh this was good I liked the writing a lot

I hate when people say something sucks just because it isn't to their tastes, so I will not be doing that.

I like the idea but not the execution. I don't feel like I was given enough time with either protag to care about them or their struggles, and this is a plot that could benefit a lot from reader investment in the characters.

The writing is not amazing but it's not nearly as offensive as EL James' work so take that with a grain of salt.
