2.5/3 stars, and not because I didn’t absolutely enjoy the book, but the editing (or rather lack of) was just really apparent. Normally that doesn’t bother me much, but in this book it was continuous and what a disservice to this book that is. :(
If the editing was better, this would be a 4 star for me!

Great book! Only thing that stopped this from being a 5 star for me was the writing style. I started the second book and had to dnf it, though, because the same things kept happening over and over again. I’ll try and pick it up again soon.
I think it’s going to take me some time to decide how I feel about this book. There was lots of spice, but it became a little redundant, if I’m being honest. I liked the story. I think I liked Raven, though gal pal is certainly abused and confused. Zeke’s lack of communication is infuriating and Cade is just annoying, abusive and all around frustrating. His character seemed all over the place. Great friend, terrible boyfriend? Minus the lifelong secrets. But then, why isn’t she mad at Mira for not coming for her and keeping secrets? Because she knew all along as well. AND then the book as a whole… so long. Like, the way it ended on a cliffhanger. It could probably have had a little more story in it and not ended quite like that. But will I read the second, obviously.
Love love love this book. Dark fantasy with morally Grey characters. Amazing world building, intriguing magic, the works! Raven is a badass female MC.
This touched all my favorite tropes:
*Touch her and die
*morally gray
*badass female lead
*Enemies to loves
*twin flames
**Grumpy sunshine**
From Blood and Ash fans should run to read this book!

The world building in this book was amazing!! And the character descriptions were so well done, I felt like I could actually see them (something I usually struggle with)! I loved the elemental magic and how the FMC can shift into different personas that more thoroughly embody the element. Raven is also an independent and confident FMC who is also vulnerable and has some morally gray darkness. The first 45% and last 15% were really good. But the middle 40% was a little rough. There was a lot of drama with the love triangle that didn’t feel necessary to moving the plot forward. It was hard to invest in a triangle with a fated mate involved. Also the spice was really good at the start but at the halfway point became just shoving P in V without any foreplay.
But I’m looking forward to the next book to see what happens next!

This book needs more trigger warnings than was advertised. I’m giving this a solid 3⭐️
I wanted raven to be more of a bad ass than she was. Half the time she was being a petulant child- her character is 25 with the emotional maturity of an 13 yo. She just comes off as spoiled and possessive in really weird kind of childish ways.
There is a love triangle and it’s terrible. Both guys are controlling and they’re both assholes. One more so than the other in my opinion but whatever. There are some less than consensual scenes in this book as a heads up and some really f*cked up ideas around sex in general but to be fair it’s a dark fantasy and a dark romance.
I was actually really invested in the story and appreciated it. It did not need to be 600+ pages but it’s also super okay that it was. I would love for raven to find herself and stand up for herself more and learn more about her magic. Fingers crossed for book two. I’ll likely be reading it.

First off, I freaking loved the FMC of this book! Raven's magic is amazing and so unique. I loved her kind heart as Queen but that she also had a darker side to her. Her character development was also great to see, even the strongest on the outside need to find and love themselves again. Zeke....are there really any words for this man? He is your delicious tall, dark, and sexy as sin character that I need more of! I loved the spicy scenes throughout the book and that there were plenty of them!
