This book gave me all the epic dark fantasy vibes I needed!
We have intense world building, a magic system that is old but not well known, a fated mate trope, a bad ass FMC that has elemental powers and can completely change forms, a dark dark man that brings out all the naughty vibes, betrayal and secrets are everywhere and this is all only just the beginning!!

This world is vast and the descriptions made it feel alive and real. I loved how the use of magic worked and how every time I thought I knew what was going to happen, things would shift. It does a great job of keeping you on your toes! And the spice is deliciously sprinkled throughout in this love triangle.
The part I did not connect with was Raven’s immaturity at times. I think that was largely due to the fact that she is young, but that didn’t make her any less relatable or less intelligent. I loved how she was constantly trying to put together the puzzle pieces and figured out a lot of things on her own. Also, it felt like this book was really long, but it was easy to jump back into it each time I picked it up.
This is the first book in a series and while I don’t know when the next one will be released, I am definitely going to be keeping an eye out for it! This world is addicting!

I really loved this book! I thought the pacing was done well and the Zeke is morally gray character of my dreams. I also liked that Raven’s top priority is always her kingdom even though she’s unsure why she was given it or if she even deserves it. I think she’s an extremely strong FMC.

Oh my GOODNESS was this a wild ride. I read this book in 3 days and it was HARD to put it down.
Raven’s character is incredibly complex & lovable, and there were many moments where her deeper, darker emotions were resonant for me, and likely many others. Her elemental magic is wildly unique & fun, & I loved every moment of learning more about what she could do.

She is loved by her people but Raven has a secret: she has dark magic (and her magic must be one of the most unique ideas I’ve ever read about). One day a mysterious man comes to her from neighboring kingdom and they feel instant connection to each other, but that’s also when her closest advisor and childhood friend starts showing her he wants more than friendship from her. Torn between two man and having to deal with rumors about her dark magic circulating in her kingdom, Raven will have to make many hard decisions before she runs out of time.
This book is the epitome of expression “you can’t trust anyone”. There are just so many secrets and lies, while reading it I was constantly on the edge of my seat and was shocked every few pages, especially in the second part of the book. And when those secrets and lies come from the people closest to you… I’m in awe of how strong Raven is, she is a really great FMC and I loved how she grew throughout the book. She sometimes annoyed me (mainly with Cade) but in the end she is so badass and exactly the kind of FMC I love to read about, can’t wait for the rest of her story.
While I normally hate love triangles, this one didn’t really bother me and I think it was very well written. I loved Zeke since the first page he appeared on so I knew who I wanted Raven to end up with and really enjoyed their romance, they are amazing together and I really hope they will find a way to finally be together in the next book.
I really enjoyed this book and after THAT cliffhanger I can’t wait to read the next one. November can’t come soon enough!
