Great story

Love when an author does a book with an older couple as the leads.

When Bear lost his wife he lost his will to live and spiralled.

When Fran's husband left the same time as her son joined the military, she became even more involved in her son's life.

Love these two together!!

4/4.5 stars

Why did I doubt Chelle? I wasn't sure that I was going to like that it was one of the guys's Mom and that the two love interests were a little older (not sure why as they are barely older than me). How silly of me...this is my favorite of the ALFA PI Books. Loved Fran's sassiness...showing that you can be older and just as sassy if not more so. Bear...gosh I love that guy...so many wrong turns in his life but owning them and becoming a great guy who is hot to boot...yes please! Their chemistry was hot, loved the interaction between Bear and Fran's son...and of course always love the other characters popping up. Thanks for a great read...and sleepless night!

review to come!

Chelle Bliss has done it again, with another hot, steamy and action packed instalment of the ALFA PI 'boys'. Without a shadow of a doubt this is a 5 star book - and would have more stars if I could give them. Fran is one rockin' chic and Bear is so hot he burns.

She writes great characters that come across as 'real' and 'everyday' people. I love the dialogue - even if there is swearing - and how the characters interact with each other. Scenes have enough description in order to build a mental image, but are not so over the top that you lose the flow of the story. The focus is on actions, thoughts and feelings and with the book being written from both main character POV's, you get to really know and understand both the hero and heroine.

The love scenes are very hot and descriptive, but they don't feel like glorified porn. There is respect and real feeling between the hero and heroine and the sex is an extension of that. Whilst this is a romance book, the story is so much more than that. There are broken relationships to mend and secrets to reveal, as well as a crime to solve. It is a bit lighter than previous books and Fran has a wicked sense of humour.

The story is not only easy to read, it kept me gripped and I had to force myself to put it down and go to sleep at one point. I then kept sneaking my phone out at work to read a few more pages until I could get home and finish the book.

I loved this book from start to finish and really enjoyed every word of it. I also loved how we got to catch up a little on the Gallo's and finally find out Bear's story.

I am kicking myself for not dropping everything else to read Wicked Impulse. Bear and Fran are such an unlikely couple. The relationship made for such an interesting romance and so many awe moments. Loved the tension within the family. The suspense, the solving of the crime made it a book I couldn't put down. Wait until you meet Ret---holy moly hotness, gush

I was so excited when I found out that Wicked Impulse was going to be Bear's story! I've loved him from the start of this series and I was really hoping he would be next after Unlawful Desire and I'm so glad he was. Wicked Impulse was even better than I was hoping for and I absolutely loved it!

I loved Franny - that woman is quite the character! She's strong and stubborn and she doesn't take any crap from anybody. She has a devious mind and is always up to something, but it comes from a place of love, so it all works out - although I would totally be okay without it coming from a love-filled place, being a little mischievously evil is good every once in awhile and Fran would definitely have that down. Fran is really just awesome, she's a bada*s and I completely loved her!

I only fell even more in love with Bear, the better we got to know him! He's still a gruff-and-tough baddie, but there's so much more to him than that. He's so sweet with Fran and while he might not be a perfect gentleman in the bedroom, he treats her good and with respect. I don't want to spoil anything about Bear that you don't know, so that's all I'm going to say about him except that's he's the best and I loooooooved him!

This is second book that I've read about an older couple in a series and I have to say - there just must be something in the air or the water when authors are writing about them because these characters become my favorites and the young ones take a backseat. Seriously, I loved reading about Bear and Fran! They're funny and made me laugh a lot, they made my heart ache and brought out the tears, and just because they're older, doesn't mean they can't get down and boy, do they ever! Wicked Impulse was sexy and full of passion, it was a little heartbreaking at times, but also heart melting at a lot of others. It was amazing and it's without a doubt my favorite in the ALFA Private Investigation series!

Wicked Impulse can be read as a standalone, it's told from Bear and Fran's POV, and they do get their happy ending.

Wicked Impulse by Chelle Bliss

Older couple Contemporary Romance. Standalone, 3rd in a series of related standalones.

Since I like to read books in order, I fell so behind on the Men of Inked Series by Chelle Bliss that I never read anything after because I always intended on catching up. But being someone who is about to stare 50 right in the face, I really enjoy novels with older couples. Chelle assured me Wicked Impulse stood alone, so I listened to the audiobook.

I have hair that is half purple down to my waist and I act like a child myself. My husband is 8 years older than me, but we still don’t think of ourselves as “old”. We have an 11 year old, maybe that’s why, but even my sisters, who are in their mid-fifties with grown kids are totally cool and not “old” at all. So I will say that Fran, especially at first, seemed way too old for her age, especially making a few “senior” jokes. If anyone called me a fucking senior I’d kick their asses.

The narration didn’t help. The female narrator would be AMAZING in a full-on comedy, but I had a little trouble thinking of her as basically someone my age. She just seemed totally like an older Italian from the Bronx, yet she was from Florida. Think of the Nanny, Marge Simpson and Linda (the mom from Bob’s Burgers) mixed and you have Fran DeLuca. She is funny as hell, but maybe a little over the top. She actually sounded a bit like my Italian Mother-in-Law from the Bronx.

But she was a hell of a lot of fun to listen to. I think if I read it rather than listened, I would have found it sexier, but for me it was more fun because of the narration.

Bear works at Alfa Pi Security and he is a total manwhore. He has two grown kids who he loves, but only from afar. He basically gave them up when they were young because he was in a bad place, which was no place for kids. One of his best friends is his co-worker, Morgan whose mom, Fran, has just been robbed of $50,000 from a guy she was dating. The boys at Alfa Pi are investigating and trying to track the thief down.

Fran wears track suits all the time and doesn’t really care about her appearance, but when she starts working with Bear, she decides it’s time for a change and goes out shopping with her friends.
“We have to get you a new bra.”
“Why?”…
“Your boobs shouldn’t be near your elbows.”

When Fran and Bear saw each other again with Fran's hot new look, it was clear. There was no way Bear could hide his need for her.
"It was written all over his face. His attraction. His need. The want he felt for me was almost electric. Why hadn’t I seen it before?”

Bear is a badass biker who has had a shit life, the love of his life died, he is estranged from his kids, and has no real connections outside work. He’s never been in a relationship that anyone can remember, so it’s no wonder Morgan warns him away from his mother.
“He was my buddy and coworker, but Fran…She was a real woman who made me feel something for the first time in as long as I could remember.”

They were actually pretty hot together, but the semi-comedic narration stopped me from really feeling a lot of that heat. When I re-read some of the scenes in the print version when I was pulling quotes, I found them a lot hotter. Even so, I loved the couple together. I love that they have hot sex in their fifties and Bear is a total dirty talker.  But they needed to keep the relationship a secret for a while.
"There’s only one thing worse than dating a friend’s sister—sleeping with his mother."

Fran was tough. She didn’t put up with ANY shit and had no problems expressing that.
"I don’t know who you think you’re snapping those meat sticks at, buddy, but it sure as fuck isn’t me… You don’t want to come in? Fine. I’ll meet you halfway, but you ever snap your fingers at me like I’m an animal again, and I’ll break them in your sleep."

I honestly totally loved Fran. She meddled with no apologies and was a great mom, but was also tough and never a weak pushover. Bear was just a completely sexy alpha, and I loved how much he appreciated all of Fran’s qualities. They were great together, and the book had me smiling the entire time.

Likes:

  • •I love a book with older couples!

  • •Even though they are in their fifties they're totally hot.

  • •Fran was funny as hell and tough as nails.

  • •Fran was a great mom even though she totally meddled (Italian moms, it's what they are made for).

  • •Even though I hadn't read the prior books, I didn't feel lost.

  • •The narration was great for comedy, Fran was totally funny. I loved the male narrator who was completely sexy.

Dislikes:

  • •I was torn on the female narrator. While I thought she was funny, her strong older Italian/New York vibe overpowered the story sometimes.

  • •Her narration stopped the sexy scenes from being sexy.

  • •Fran seemed way older than early fifties, but I admit, I know one or two women my age that just seem way older.

  • •Not a fan of the way it ended.

The Down & Dirty:

I am torn on Wicked Impulse. I love the story, but where I'm torn is whether the audio made it better or worse. I think it made the story a comedy, where if I read on kindle I think I would have found it a much sexier read with some funny moments. Fran seemed a bit older than the age she's supposed to be, because she seemed old to me even though I'm about the same age. But I love Chelle for writing an older couple as still very sexual and HOT and including it in a series for all ages. It's funny, the story that first made me fall for Chelle's writing was The Gallos which is no longer on Kindle, but it was about the parents of the characters in Men of Inked who were married a long time, older, and still cool and sexy.

All in all I totally recommend Wicked Impulse. If you are looking for more of a comedy with a unique and fun narrator, get the audible. If you are looking for a hot read with an older couple, get the print version. Either way, it's a great story, and I'm ready for more, because this doesn't quite stand completely alone, you will want the next.

Rating: 4.25 Stars, 4.25 Heat, 4 Narration

What a fun read! If you've enjoyed the Men of Inked series, and the two Alpha PI spin offs so far, you definitely want to add this to your collection. Bear is one hot, and yummy silver fox!! Fran is funny, and so likeable! The Men of Inked Christmas novella included at the end of this book is a great bonus also!!

I loved this story!! Which honestly took me by surprise as i'm not a huge fan of stories featuring shall we say more mature characters but this one completely rocked! Bear and Fran were fantastic together, they had a huge amount of chemistry and shared so much banter. As for the story it was hot, fun, sweet and had just a dash of suspense but was mainly all about this insane attraction between Bear and Fran and their friends/families reaction to it. Which went from encouraging in the case of Maria, Frans best friend and sister in law to some what disapproving in the case of Frans son Morgan.

This story also told Bear's backstory and introduced his son and daughter Ret and Janice who thanks to Frans meddling are finally reunited with Bear. As well as being full of entertaining moments thanks to Maria and Fran who were hilarious and at times slightly crazy. Whenever they spent time together and really just added a whole other layer to an already extremely enjoyable story and one I would happily recommend to others.
