Chilly, moody and dark. The vibes is immaculate in this book. I really enjoyed the snippets of poem at the beginning of each chapter. I found the overall magic system really refreshing, but what I liked most was the concept that everything has a price to pay, and that the more powerful you are, the greater the price paid. It is with contrary in most fantasy books where there is always one party that has too much power, and it is always the antagonist. This was such a brilliant idea!
For a debut novel, this book is impressive. I am most interested in continuing this journey, and cannot wait to see how this duology will end. Worth the read and will recommend.

Interesting in the beginning but the plot and characters started to lose me about halfway

a solid cozy fantasy read. it was reminiscent of YA fantasy which made it a comforting read for me. I really enjoyed Elspeth and the Nightmare’s dynamic. the Nightmare’s dialogue and interactions with Elspeth were definitely one of my favourite aspects of the book. the build up of the romance was delicious! though I didn’t feel much connection to the couple, I definitely relished in their interactions (yearning🙏). the reveals throughout weren’t very surprising but the story was still very intriguing nonetheless. I also do hope to see more of the side characters in the second book!
