Ender in Exile

This book is fine for what it is meant to do: fill in a gap in the Ender chronology between the last chapters of Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead. Both of those books are excellent. This is something that will only be enjoyable to those who have read pretty much all of the other books in this series. I liked it as a quick read that gave me some extra background to the overall series, but it felt more like a novella he wrote because someone at the publisher's said, "C'mon, those Ender books sell really well. Can't you write something else about *him*?" Not necessary for those who aren't already fans.

far from being one of the best in this series/universe, but still had its potently emotional moments. the beginning and the end drag but the middle is typical (in a good way). the best part about the ender/bean books is that all the manipulating and outwitting seem organic and not cheap or for the sake of a "gotcha" moment; that wasn't always the case here but i still enjoyed the further characterization of ender in the end.

Ender in Exile is the story of Ender and the other characters of Ender's Game just after the latter novel. It's also necessary have read before the Shadow's Series, because there are so many characters and facts there told that have their consequences in Ender in Exile. If you haven't read those you can be a bit lost.

Both the Shadow's Series and the Ender's Series refer some of the decisions made after the war against formics, but they don't explain them. Here you are what happened. It's the boom of the soldier after the war.

I like the 'Endervese', and I've read almost every book Card has written about (except for the trilogy of the first formic war). I really loved the classic Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow and enjoyed too some of the books in both the series. But here occurs like in too many successful series in which the author continues writing and writing, though quality decreases increasingly.

I guess it's not his fault. While people like me continue reading these stories he'll continue writing. I love Ender and all the Enverse and I enjoy reading about him, but each time a little less.

3.5⭐

Loved it. I'm tied between this one and Speaker for the Dead as my favorite of the Ender-specific stories... I need to reread Speaker for the Dead as well as Ender in Exile a few more times to determine whether one will prevail or a middle ground solely remains.

I loved this book. The summary given in Ender's Game was neat. But I love the fact that this goes into further detail of what happened to Ender when he starts his voyage. Throughout the whole book I just wanted to hug Ender and protect him from all the crazy people. Being the genius that he is, though, he didn't really need my help. It's amazing how well thought out and detailed these books. And the characters so rich. My heart goes out to all the battle school kids.

I really enjoyed this a lot somewhere in the middle. The ending was good, but it didn't have the same emotional kick that I got from some of the other parts of the book. Still, I quite enjoyed it, and am looking forward to the next one.

I would've given 3.5 stars, but it's not possible on Goodreads. A good "filler" for the story, but I disliked how Card is going to have to change future editions of the book.
