Emily Henry is an incredible romance novelist and I have loved each book that I have read and already can't wait to start reading another one of her novels. Without fail, her characters are incredibly written and it is so easy to fall in love alongside them (also the sexual chemistry and content is worth the unbelievable tension throughout the book!) This was a story about family, as well as romantic love, and how to forgive others and yourself for past decisions and re-learn what it means to truly love someone else. The whole book was raw, powerful, heart-warming, funny, and emotional and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it – it also only took me a few days to get through it as I was always itching to pick it back up and read more. It was one of those books that, once I had finished reading, I wished I could read for the first time all over again.

Definitely think it’s overhyped but I can see why people loved it. I wished we got to see inside Gus’ head; being stuck with January’s narration is probably half of why I didn’t connect with both their characters or them as a couple.
Even the tension didn’t “tension” the way I wanted it to

Very cute. Grittier than I expected, in a good way. Flew through it - fast paced read. Especially loved Pete and Maggie. I was particularly impressed by Emily Henry's ability to describe the physical, emotional feelings of the ups and downs of falling in love, i.e. "a new ache pinballing through my body" or "my throat felt like it had collapsed".

It took me a long time to get into this book, longer than is usually does for "chick lit" type books. But once I got into it, I really enjoyed it. I went weeks without picking this up after starting it, but I finished the last 150 pages in a day. I did highlight a few sentences and read some parts out loud to my partner, which is always a good sign.

I devoured this book in two big chunks over two days. Books about writers just hit differently. I adored their rivalry, their camaraderie, the way previous misunderstandings unraveled between them. Little more steam than my preference, but the scenes were still on the tasteful side, relatively. My only other critique is that January seemed to drink a *lot* of wine.

Highly recommend the audiobook read by Julia Whalen.

A really fun and enjoyable romance packed full of wit and humour as well as the much-needed soppy AND steamy scenes! I knocked off a star for the ending which didn't really do anything for me. However, the novel itself was great and I always think how hard it must be to end a romcom when all the reader wants is more.

Great writing, great three-dimensional characters with a range of emotions and loved the setting and subplots (anyone else want to read January's novel about the circus family? No? Ok). This wasn't just about Gus and January falling in love, but both of them learning to live again after loss. The dialogue was funny and realistic and the pacing was great. This is what I wish all romcoms were like!

Despite it falling under the romcom genre, there are some pretty heavy themes which aren't obvious from the cover or blurb:

TW:
death of parent (off-page, heart attack), parent with cancer, divorce, cult murders (seems random, but quite graphic descriptions)
