The whole time I read this, I couldn't tell if I liked it or not. But I think that was because it was full of things I normally would NEVER go for, yet I'm now looking forward to reading book two. So take that what you will.

Selene reminds me of Bryce Quinlan from the first Crescent city book. Much like Selene, I am still unsure how I feel about Memnon.

I'm not sure what to say about this book really. I did enjoy selene's character and her powers. As much as I'm surprised to say it, this book could've been just a fantasy alone with little to no romance involved. A disabled witch who's working to get into her desired coven's program? Sounds like a promising start, unfortunately it revolved too heavily around Memnon. Which is fine, I love romantasy but this books plot could've worked so well by itself. I just didn't really care for Memnon and I thought his obsession with selene was far too weird for me to dive into.

Probably one of my favorite books where I was reading it not for the plot, but for the angst between the MCs. It starts off with so much tension and secrets that Selene has no memory of. Everything that comes out of Memnon’s mouth, I go absolutely FERAL for! It was a slow start to get into this, but it picked up real quick and I’m glad I stuck it out. I love how Selene put others first even when it came to her safety and Memnon was able to aid her in escaping a sticky situation. Their banter was really interesting because one minute they are hating each other and the next minute they are praising each other. I don’t know what to think, Memnon is in live with Selene for sure, but there seems to be something that’s holding him back from loving her fully (maybe due to the fact that she cursed him) Trust issues i guess! There’s still so many secrets left to be revealed! It ended in a huge cliffy and I’m dying for the next book!
2025 reread: I wanted to go back and read this with the extra context from the prequel, and... yep. Still loved it.
2023 first read: I wish I waited reading this book longer. Because I need more and waiting an entire year might kill me.
This book completely sucked me in. I loved every page and every little tidbit of backstory that we learned. I could not put this book down, I fell in love with the characters and their love story that we're slowly uncovering. Memnon is definitely one of my favorite villain love interests, I can't waitttt to see more of his unhingness!
Obsessed with this series right away!

I think I would've liked this book more if I hadn't read her other series first tbh
