I’ve been in a reading slump for about two months; I pick up a book and can’t focus. I find myself reading a simple passage over and over again.

Powering through, I tried dipping my toe back into the classics. I kept it light by choosing a children’s classic. This particular choice, along with my lack of focus, made it difficult to get through.

A sweet book with many lessons to be learned about friendship and accountability, it dragged in places where the author used excessive use of flowery words to dredge up imagery of the landscape, and so forth. The chapter on the Sea Rat (Wayfarers All) was particularly brutal. I’ll probably give this book another try when I’m back to regular reading mode, but for now I’ll let it be.

This edition was GORGEOUS. I adored the narrator and I was immediately immersed in the story. I think the ending of this book is a bit abrupt, but the utter delight I felt in navigating mole and rat's adventures made any pacing issues a non-issue. Cozy, charming, and so so sweet, I will revisit this classic again and again ❤️

I was promised a cute cottage core book. I was NOT prepared for
the absolute anarchy and existentialism. And what was up with the sighting of the devil???

Anyways, had a good time.

4.5-5 stars

Decided to try something different and let my husband choose my TBR for his birthday month. He really liked the idea and this was the first book he chose for me to read in the category of “book he never heard of but I had” lol. I absolutely adored “The Wind in the Willows” and totally understand why it’s a beloved book for children and adults! I can definitely see myself buying a personal illustrated copy to read to my future kids and to have for myself.

Reading this story felt like I was reading a bunch of short stories all tied together with 4 friends (Mole, Water Rat/Rat/“Rattie,” Toad and Badger) and the community they live in. Mole is my favorite character as I truly see a lot of myself in him. My husband is definitely Rat. I definitely know a Toad; Love them but also want to throttle them at certain times. Badger is someone I aspire to be and I’ve known less than a handful of Badgers but they’re definitely the best of the best. Honestly, all these characters are so dear and wonderful that I can see why President Theodore Rosevelt called them “dear friends.”
