I found it incredibly difficult to read at times, especially the first half of the book, due to the nature of the themes being explored, but otherwise a beautiful and insightful read. Highly recommend following up by listening to Ashley speaking on a podcast, such as Glennon Doyle's 'We Can Do Hard Things' podcast for extra insight and hope.

Oh my God.
I don't read a lot of memoirs or non fiction in general these days, but I am SO glad I read this. I smiled a lot, I cried, I was thinking about passages and phrases and quotes from it for hours afterwards.
I think this is hit so close because she talks about her relationships with her parents. The emotionally absent mother and physically absent father are figures I know only too well. She said so many things I've thought but could never articulate.
I recommend this to everyone. It is so, so good. So powerful. I know I'll be coming back to things I read in this book a LOT.

this was really good. some of the ways she wrote about things felt so relatable. she experienced some similar things to me and hearing her share about it was affirming. she felt like a friend.
the way that she forgave and maintained relationship with her mother made me feel somewhat ashamed.
it was slow at parts and there were a couple of chapters that felt inconsequential although i’m sure they were important to the author. i’m very curious how memoirists remember so many minute details about their lives, not only how they felt but dialogue and how things took place.

An absolute must read memoir. It's filled with poise and heart and descriptions of emotions unlike anything I've read in awhile. I don't know what else to say other than to read it.
