I really enjoyed it, but life happened since I started and it's been too long. I want to go back and restart it some day.

Good fun times, but it's quite noticeable Dumas sold this book by the installment. It gets quite draggy in parts and I have a feeling he really wanted to write a political thriller about the 17th century but since it was the 19th century only adventure and romance would sell.

So. Much. Book. Yes, this book took me forever to read. Yes, it was totally worth it. Can I just say, after growing up watching the movies that the book was completely a surprise for me? I'm pretty sure that the filmmakers of any of the adaptations stopped reading after about 250 pages and said "well, I think that's all we need for a good movie." Once the diamond thing finished I still had about 500 pages left. I was like, what could possibly happen in all those pages? For such a long book, this is a disappointingly short review, mostly because there is way too much to talk about. Except I do want to talk about D'Artagnan for a second. Can you say player? I mean I knew he was lady's man, but holy heck, he went after an older, married woman! And she was totally into it! Seriously made me laugh. And then Milady? Oh, wait, if you haven't read it and only seen the films then you will be in for a bit of a surprise about those two. I loved this book, just like I knew I would. It just isn't for the faint of heart when it comes to committing to reading a giant book.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would

If you're like me, you think you know the story of The Three Musketeers, even though you've never read it. But if you're like me, you probably don't. You probably think it's about 4 heroic swashbucklers, with a bit of humor, romance, and a lot of adventure. But really, this is a funny book. Sure, there are some adventures and some romance (weird, creepy, off-putting romance) but truly, it's a laugh a minute. Strangest of all is the musketeers themselves. Rather than being heroic romantic figures, these guys are idiots, and basically the worst (except Aramis. I still love you Aramis!). Honestly, even though she is legit evil, I spent a lot of the book rooting for Milady. She might be evil, but she's crazy smart and fun to read about. This book is not at all what I expected, but it was more enjoyable than I imagined it would be.
