3.5 stars. It's typical Erin Nicholas. I think she's a great writer. Her books have a good mix of spice, plot and humor. This book was no different. I just wish there had been a bit less Autre Louisiana and bit more outside that world. It's beginning to feel a bit repetitive. I've read about 98% of her previous books and still got confused on who was who. In my opinion Ms Nicholas is too good of an author to rely so much on her past works.

So good!

What a fantastic book! I loved the conclusion that was started from the prequel. Spencer & Max took the time & put in effort to make their relationship work. Perfect!

Back to the Bayou! Now with less animal shenanigans, but more mystery and suspense. No matter how long it’s been since you’ve been to Autre, or whether it’s you’re first time, you will immediately feel like family. While it was nice to catch up with my favorite characters, I am also loving getting to know the newbies. I loved this gender-swapped version of grumpy-sunshine. Max was an amazing heroine whose attitude and bravery were so admirable. And it was great to see Spencer’s character grow as he discovered what it is that he really needs from a relationship and how to take care of himself in a healthy way.

Getting a new release from Erin Nicholas is always a special treat-Gotta Be Bayou did not disappoint. Finished off this one in a day!! Perfect story of a hero and heroine who do not want to like each other, have explosive physical chemistry and learn a lot about what they really need along the way to their HEA. The addition of many familiar Autre characters throughout the story just made it even better. Thank you Erin for a perfect start to a new series-can’t wait for Michael and Ami next!

This was cute. I liked Max and I thought she was a strong character. I liked Spencer, too, but thought he could be a little better. Overall, this was cute and lighthearted but I think it could be more. There were many names that I couldn’t keep up with and Spencer’s girlfriend requirements were interesting. Pacing was interesting too… a little insta-love. But still good!

I received this book as an ARC (thanks to the author & publisher!)

While Spencer’s list of an “ideal” girlfriend made my roll my eyes, I loved that there was a back story to it! Just such an excellent book - loved this return to Autre!

Spencer is set up as a bit of a jerk, wanting a sweet woman who will cook for him when he gets home from work. He is self-aware that he sounds misogynist as he lays out his girlfriend requirements. And his reasons are rooted in wanting to offset the darkness of his job for the FBI.

Max is not his dream girl. She wears all black, orders takeout, and faces her own share of darkness in her job as an investigative journalist. But their chemistry is hot. And when she is threatened for doing her job, he feels drawn to protect her.

I loved Max and her dedication to investigating and reporting about the misdeeds of the wealthy. She especially focused on chemical dumping and the racism and classism of cancer clusters. And Spencer grew on me. I loved how protective and caring he was. But more, I loved seeing his growth through the story.

This isn't a stand alone. Get the prequel, Bayou Tonight, for free in Ten First Dates, and read it first. It sets up the relationship between Spencer and Max. They first meet in a previous series, but just reading the prequel should be sufficient.

Thank you to the author and Social Butterfly PR for the advanced reader copy. These opinions are my own.
