This book seemed like a perfect summer read, and I did enjoy much of it - but also it fell short for me in different ways.
What I liked:
1.  The magic! It was a casual fun magic system that basically just said - don’t think too hard about it-whenever a inconsistency came up. Since I read a lot of books with complex magic systems, this actually felt relaxing and fun to me.  I really liked the use of poppets, knitting, growing things, and cooking included in it.
2. The houses. The description of the houses, especially the FMC’s home were well done and exciting to read. Very imaginative and well described. It made me want to go there
3.  The coziness. Definitely a good fit for the cozy witch genre
4.  The idea of the story - the basic plot was interesting
5. All of the side characters were fun and quirky
6. There were some really funny parts

What didn’t hit with me
1. The plot was stuffed a bit too full which caused a few things to dwindle off into the distance, not be explained, or seem tacked on
2.  Sometimes aspects of it felt forced and unrealistic (which sounds silly talking about a book about witches, but it is set in the real world).  Relationships felt a bit instant, the back stories/trauma felt a little overdone and dramatically weighted.  Some of the banter was awkward.
3. Some of the humor was not for me - but humor is subjective so I am sure it will work for others.

I would read another book by this author though, and would definitely read a sequel. For me a 3 or above is a book I enjoyed. And I did enjoy this, just not as much as I hoped I would.

Read this book if:
1. You like cozy witchy vibe books
2. You enjoy simple magic systems and time travel plots that don’t make you learn complicated rules and physics (or if you want a break from those)
3.  You want something on the lighter side

Much more than I expected!

The description "The laugh-out-loud opposites attract magical witch romcom" filled my head with lots of witchy shenanigans, all (or mostly) fluff, and easy reading. I was extremely pleasantly surprised! Yes, there are lots of witchy shenanigans, and it was loads of fun, but it had way more substance than I expected! It's not just a series of misunderstandings surrounded or caused by magic. The magic plays a heavy role, not just in the romance but also in the fight against evil.

I bought this book on impulse - I was idly looking at books on Amazon and decided to take a chance on it, not having any plan to read it soon. I'd get to it eventually. You know how that goes, I'm sure. The ability to get tons of books without having to lug them home and have them clutter up the joint has increased my To Be Read list exponentially. A couple days ago, I finished the book I was reading and was idly looking through my downloaded books. My finger twitched on Hex Appeal, and here I am, loving the book and gushing over it! Was it Essie's influence, or maybe Avery slipped something into my overnight oats as I slept. Whatever the reason, I'm glad I took a chance on this book and hope you will, too!

This was such a lovely light read. Perfect cozy, witchy vibes, a great book to be reading by the fire on a rainy evening.

I love the double POVs, the vulnerable moments for each of the characters, and the plot line. Simply written which makes it an untaxing read.

A really enjoyable read :) my only criticism is that I felt it tried to do too much and probably could have been shorter

It was fine, it didn’t grip me & I didn’t love any of the characters sadly.
