I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Initially, I approached it with some skepticism due to the common title, but my faith in the author (Will Wight, one of my favorites) kept me intrigued. Thankfully, the story proved to be captivating, and as a fan of well-written space action novels, I was thoroughly pleased. The inclusion of time travel elements added that special vibe I love.
The characters in this book were undeniably badass. However, I do wish there had been more detailed explanations about the magic system and the world it exists in. Some terms and concepts were left unexplored, requiring me to fill in the gaps on my own.
Spoiler
Varic Vallenar's life takes a transformative turn when the spell he casts grants him memories spanning five lifetimes, along with an unexpected bonus. Driven by these newfound recollections, he embarks on a mission to avert the imminent disasters he has foreseen for the galaxy.During his journey, he fortuitously encounters an ancient ship that grows in power based on the capabilities of its crew. To confront an immensely powerful enemy, Varic reunites with friends from his past lives. This sets the stage for even more formidable adversaries to come in future books, leaving me eagerly anticipating what lies ahead.
For those who like strong characters being underestimated/ having some knowledge of possible future events. Nice blend of magic/ tech.
“Well then, wake me when they get here.”
“I cannot guarantee that, so I have been tasked with keeping you awake.” Something rigid bumped me in the ribs, and I glanced down to see that she had nudged me with the toe of her armored boot.
“Stay awake,” she said.
I groaned as I sat up. “What do I call you? Do you have a name?”
“I do not. I have only been repurposed since you singled me out in the original simulation.”
“Digital characters often have names.”
“I do not.”
“And you’re not self-aware? Not even a mind-scan?”
