Útil para saber que parte de tu cuerpo se beneficia con cada postura ... y sí, hay asanas para quemar grasa de abdomen...

informative slow-paced

Another incredible yoga teacher and student resource! The photos included by BKS Iyengar are incredible and some of the things he can do are insane! It really shows how long he has been practicing (he said about 10 hours a day for many years). I would say this book definitely goes more in depth on aspects of yoga; a lot of current books focus on the asanas, or poses, but this book goes into pranayama, or breath, the koshas, the chakras, as well as the yogi path. It adds guidelines on how to be the healthiest version of yourself through yoga.
The downside of this book was the difficulty to read through the poses, as I've seen a lot of other reviews on goodreads mention. It would list a pose in Sanskrit, which I didn't mind I want to learn the Sanskrit names, but not being super familiar, there was no "or dancer" "or mountain" it would explain under the name what it was "like a ballet dancer" etc. Again, no issue with this but my specific issue was that the poses layout would be all kind of out of order, there would be two poses listed and then one pose might include 7 "plates" or photos, but the next pose is similar; you really need to look back at the plate numbers to make sure its the right one.
Maybe thats a minor inconvenience because aside from that, I actually really enjoyed the book!

Yoga is so much more than the physical practice. I learn something new every time I return to this book.

Keep reading it on and off, its more for looking up info on specific asanas

Does anyone ever "finish" this book?

This book will remain a staple in my collection. So far, no electronic version does it justice, and Iyengar is my yoga lineage (as one of the founding forefathers of yoga in the West). It provides a short summary of the Yoga Sutras, loads of pictures and descriptions of the yoga poses, including breaking down the sanskrit and the benefits of each pose.

Even if you aren't a yoga teacher/instructor or a current yogi, this book would be extremely helpful with a few pranyama (energetic breathing) exercises and a schedule for yoga poses to further your asana (physical practice).

This had been a reference book for me for years. But this year I made a practice of slowly reading this classic, attempting (most of) the poses as Mr. Iyengar instructed (one or two a day), and journaling how it went. It was an interesting journey. The mix of anatomy, philosophy and mythology make this a must-have resource for any serious yoga student.

This is more of a textbook than a reading book, but it’s got all the information it seems like you will ever need.

The penultimate yoga guide from a master. Excellent.
