Read introduction, but not all the poses yet. Was surprised to see the references/similarities to Western Christianity
Many many asanas described very technically, with good accompanying photos. One of my favorite parts is the list of ailments and yoga relief poses.
Most times I get interested in something I’ll end up reading a book about it, and this has been a helpful reference in growing my yoga practice. The majority of the text is detailed history, step-by-step instructions, and pictures of hundreds of asanas, but there’s also smaller sections on yoga philosophy and pranayama. I’ve found it enjoyable to flip through and learn about poses I thought I knew or would like to try, and both humbling and inspirational to see how far it’s possible to go.

A very detailed reference for the physical practice of yoga.
Great breakdown and reference guide. Struggled with male-dominated language (which I knew about going in); still invaluable to own and return to for any need in practice; should not be attempted by book alone.

While it's not exactly a beach read, this book is basically the Bible for yogis. I thought it might be hard for me to understand since I only started my practice less than a year ago, but the instructions, photographs, and effects are all explained really clearly--even for the beginner! It's a great reference book that I will keep handy for whatever question I may have about my asana practice. If you're looking to deepen your yoga practice, I definitely recommend this one!

I'm clearly not enough of a yogi to slog through this yet. I love doing yoga, but I couldn't sit still...
This is the Iyengar Bible. I used it while studying yoga - Excellent book by the master himself.
