Corinne moves to Chicago to figure her life out, working temp job to temp job. She wakes up one morning with an app on her phone that she doesn’t know where it came from, but it sends four people she’s encountered from her past to give a second chance to.
I thought this was a cute and interesting read I’ve never read anything like it, and the diversity of the sexuality of characters from a bisexual man to someone who uses they/them. I love to see this in books coming from someone who is apart of the LG(B)TQIA+ community.
I love how Corey is jealous of her connections and hates that she gives into the antics of an app. He’s possessive without being overbearingly so.

Amazon First Reads pick!!
4.5!!!
What a sweet and funny romance novel, filled with heart and friendship and life. I love the whole Met app concept, and Corinne is such a likeable and well-fleshed out main character. Love the side characters and I am BEGGING for a Tiawanda sequel!!! I am begging Miss Camille Baker!!!!!!!!

Promising, but Awkward
This was a decent read, but the romance part was not successful for me. The people that she dealt with were all undesirable. There was an obnoxious entitled executive with ivory skin, a delusional D-list actor, a non-binary artsy option, and a bisexual man coming off of a breakup with his boyfriend. I wasn’t able to root for any of them. The happy ending didn’t give me butterflies. It seemed unrealistic. The chosen person came off as bitchy and whiny. The backstory of the dating app wasn’t believable, but it was a fun concept. What I really did enjoy was seeing Corinne find her tribe and a rewarding career. I also really enjoyed the loving relationship she had with her brother. So there were parts of this book that really worked. Other parts made me cringe.

I really loved the concept of this book - a mysterious app appears on your phone that is supposed to lead you towards you soul mate and then folks from your past begin appearing. Cool. I was, unfortunately, not convinced of the love story in this novel. I was much more convinced of the value of the friendships of Cori with her late best friend and her new found friends. I wish that there was a bit more chemistry between Cori and her soulmate. But overall, I was just happy to see a Black woman with so many options. I would recommend as a quirky and cute read.

It took me a while to get into the book, but I am glad I pushed through. I’m not a huge fan of supernatural elements in a contemporary story, which explains my initial unease. I’m not sure whether to call this a romance or women’s fiction. There are romantic elements, but the story focuses much more on Corrine’s grieving process and coming into her own as an adult. THe story opens with Corrine moving back to Chicago after her best friend dies of cancer. She spent her early years there before moving to Chicago, but she stayed in touch with her best friend through the years.
Her life seems to be falling apart, including her car, as she comes back to town. But she reconnects with a cousin and then a mysterious dating app appears on her phone.
The book takes us on her journey as she tries to figure out what’s next in her career and her relationship and how to resolve her feelings about her friend’s death.
An excellent book after a slow start. 4.25. Bonus points for the diversity of characters.
