I'm biased right out the gate - I love black love.

Getting that out the way, I really liked the basis of the story, and I especially loved Cory and Cori. I think them having the same nickname was cute, and I think they had a great friendship that built to a good relationship with good chemistry. The writing was great, and it felt like a distinctly Black voice, which I absolutely loved.

The thing that put me off the most was how rocky their relationship was towards the end of the book - I didn't really get the miscommunication or the disagreement between the two. The app seemed completely inconsequential to me. It didn't seem to have had a huge impact on Cori's life other than a few coincidences, so I am unsure why she placed so much emphasis on this app. I understand that her deceased friend made it for her (but I'm not quite sure of the logistics behind it; my eyes kind of glossed over the explanation because I didn't really care as much as the book wanted me to). It seemed like conflict for conflict's sake, and not genuine conflict. Although the makeup scene with his data article concluding that he was in love with her was just too cute.

Be forewarned, though - this is a clean book. No sex scenes, even though they're clearly having sex. If this book had some explicit scenes, I probably could've forgiven the miscommunication trope. While I enjoyed this book (most of the time), I can't see myself rereading it. Overall 3.5/5

Loved this book! Super cute and the writing made me want to be a part of their friend group and live in their world. Also, the author is really aware of making it truly contemporary romance for the 2020s and I loved that!

Cute and inclusive

A rom com that was somewhat predictable…. But isn’t that what we want from rom coms? The inclusion of diverse characters reminded me of the variety of people in my own life.

While the premise was interesting and the characters were fantastic , I didn’t like the writing style and found it too clunky for me for a romance novel. Often I was pulled from the story by weird sentence structure, dialogue that didn’t seem to fit and vocabulary being used that didn’t make sense for the situation It’s too bad because the characters and love story was cute , setting was nice, and the diversity and topics covered were awesome.

Loved the premise of this book! And THE ENDING…soooo cute and satisfying. This is a fairly lighthearted read perfect for Valentine’s Day or any time you’re in the mood for a fun romance.

This was a quick, cute romance with a really original premise! I loved the characters' personalities and how they really jumped off the page. I love "chosen family" tropes because it's so relevant to my own life. I appreciate how open Corinne was to meeting new people and welcoming new opportunities; there was never any big hesitation and that's so refreshing to see. However, there is a huge plot hole in the book that drove me mad.
How did the Met app get on Corinne's phone in the first place? It didn't appear until months after Joelle passed away, so how did it suddenly appear?

The plot line surrounding grief was so powerful. I love how no one tried to rush Corinne into "moving on" and instead held her as she experienced grief and how it permeated her life in different ways. I also LOVED that Cory learned sign language of his own volition because he knew how important it was to Corinne's family.

I wanted to love this book more than I did, but I couldn't get on board with Corinne letting some app dictate her entire life. This book is cute and worth reading if you're willing to suspend belief for a while.
