I scooped a digital copy of this book from Amazon's First Reads. In this novel we follow Corrine as she navigates moving to Chicago where she lived as a child after the death of her best friend. Shortly after arriving she has a mysterious app, called Met, that has somehow been downloaded to her phone. It's a dating app that promising to deliver her soulmate who is someone she has met in the past. Shortly after Corrine meets a series of people from her past and starts believing the app may be legitimate. This part of the story falls shorts and is completely unbelievable, in fact the author does not even put much effort into making the app remotely interesting. However, Corrine does have a cast of friends and adventures, that allow me to escape and be entertained by their adventures. The group of family and friends is so diverse which is refreshing but some of the characters are a bit underdeveloped and their importance to the story is questionable.

Meh... That pretty much sums up how I feel about this book. I just didn't connect to any of the characters, I found the twist predictable and I actually rolled my eyes at the resulting conflict - it was just unnecessary. Also they never explained how the app actually came to be beyond the fact that her friend planned it. Am I supposed to believe that all the meetings were pre planned by Jo before she died or was there something magical/supernatural going on? That being said, the representation in this book was off the charts and I loved the relationship between Cori and her brother. So, even though I didn't massively enjoy this book, I'm interested to see what the author comes out with next! I would love a novella or even a full novel about Lito!

3.5. A strong debut but it definitely did feel like a debut.
A really great, diverse cast of characters that you will root for.
I honestly just didn’t really like the app concept. It was the entire premise of the book but I just felt like it wasn’t really necessary, it wasn’t used enough to make it seem important (when you knew from the beginning who she was going to end up with) but also when it did come up I just found it a bit annoying?
I’ll be following this author and checking out her future work, she has a really great voice.
