Title: Three Perfect Liars
Author: Heidi Perks
Format: Audiobook

Quick Take: Three ambitious women have their lives turned upside down after a horrifying fire destroys a successful advertising agency and threatens to expose a tangled web of lies.

Thoughts: I'm not entirely sure how I feel about Three Perfect Liars. The story was intriguing enough to keep me interested and to keep me listening. But the ending just fell flat. The ending was just so anticlimactic. Overall a decent but slow read.

Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars

The book begins with a building burning to the ground, and someone who set the fire watching it. Then the rest of the book tries to get you to guess who set the fire and their motive for doing so.
There are 3 primary suspects:
1. Laura Denning - new mom, returns to work to find that her largest account has been pulled from her
2. Mia Anderson - supposed to be a temp account director, but she is holding something
3. Janie Wood - CEO’s wife, no longer in love with her husband
All three of these women have motive, but who set the fire.
There are a lot of clues and twists set forth in this novel to keep you guessing, but some of it was too obscure. I didn’t like the constant guilt that Laura felt for being a working mother. I thought that was way overdone. I also thought it was unbelievable that a 3 story 5 year old building could burn so completely and so quickly. I also didn’t find it credible that the person who committed the crime could pull it off.

I liked how everything made sense and came together at the end - provided a lot of clarity. and i was definitely curious throughout the whole book but i think the author should have given us more details or information to grab onto before the very end. felt it was anti-climatic and took a long time to actually get to the interesting part which ended up only being about 50 pages

Did you love Big Little Lies? Well this one definitely gave me similar vibes. A slow building plot, strong female characters with dark secrets, police transcripts used to unravel the truth…I couldn’t get enough! If you are a fan of all of the above, I highly recommend checking out Three Perfect Liars by Heidi Perks.

From the publisher – “From the author of Her One Mistake , hailed as “chilling, captivating” by New York Times bestselling author Megan Miranda, comes a riveting new suspense novel about three ambitious women whose lives are turned upside down in the aftermath of a horrifying fire, which destroys a successful advertising agency and threatens to expose a tangled web of lies.
Laura has returned to work at Morris and Wood after her maternity leave, only to discover that the woman she brought in to cover for her isn’t planning on going anywhere. Despite her close relationship with the agency’s powerful CEO, Harry Wood, she feels sidelined—and outmaneuvered—as she struggles to balance the twin demands of work and motherhood.

Mia was only supposed to be a temporary hire at Morris and Wood, but she’s managed to make herself indispensable to everyone. Everyone, that is, except Laura. If people only knew why she was so desperate to keep her job, they might not want her to stay.

Janie gave up everything to support her husband and the successful agency he runs. But she has her own dark secret to protect…and will go to any lengths to keep it safe.

With signature prose lauded as “breathtaking” and “bone-chilling” by USA TODAY bestselling author Cristina Alger and plenty of shocking twists and turns, Three Perfect Liars is an unputdownable thriller for fans of Watching You and The Couple Next Door.”

I am a thriller fan (aka head of the self proclaimed Shari Lapena Fan Club), so hearing all those comparisons to other titles I’ve read, made me very interested to read this and I’m glad I did!

The story is told from the perspectives of three women (Laura, Mia and Janie) and begins in medias res. It contains flashbacks to two months before the fire and moves forward to the night in question. This helps to build suspense and develop strong backstories (and motives) for each character. I found myself going back and forth between who I thought was responsible for the crime. I will say I did not have this one figured out in advance (which doesn’t happen often). Perks does a great job keeping the reader on their toes as the story unfurls.

I found myself sympathizing with Laura throughout the novel. As a mom with very young children, I understood the struggle between family and career and how difficult it can be to let go of your previous life goals. I was rooting for her throughout. She and the other characters were flawed, yet still engaging. I loved how female focused this story was.

I will say the ending was a bit anti-climatic. As a thriller fan, I was hoping for more of a jaw-dropping twist, as opposed to the slow burner this one was, but this does not take away from the reader’s overall enjoyment of the story.

I would highly recommend if you are looking for a well-written mystery with a strong female presence.

⚾️Knocked it out the park.

I’ve never read a book that made me hate all three characters instantly. They all felt guilty.
The author tells this story in reverse. You Immediately hate them

3.5*

3.5 stars for me. This is a typical "slow burning" mystery. Emphasis on the word: slow.

This was entertaining to read and the only thing that kept me going was to figure out... "Whodunit?" Then when the arsonist was revealed, it was anti-climatic to me. I would consider this a nice beach read or a fluffy mystery. No plot twists. No thrilling jaw dropping accusations. Minor secrets.
