Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed the non linear timeline of this book, moving back and forth between the night of a devastating fire and going back 2 months previously working toward that night.

The pacing of the storyline was excellent and I was intrigued by all three of the lead characters' motives and their connections to the crime and each other kept me guessing to the end. The ending was poignant and I appreciated that it didn't go as I expected once the reveals had been completed.

A good book and definite recommendation for 2020.

Laura, Mia, and Janie are all connected by an advertising agency, Morris & Wood. Laura has just returned after 6 months maternity leave. Mia, the temp who covered for her, is now working there full-time and seems after Laura’s job. Janie’s husband, Harry, owns the company. When a fire that is considered arson burns the ad agency to the ground, secrets that all three ladies have been hiding will eventually come out.

This book had such a great premise that I was really excited to read it. I struggled getting into it though. The book alternates through the three ladies perspectives as well as police interviews after the fire. I did like the alternating points of view because you got to see how the three ladies perceived each other. All three ladies are unreliable narrators which makes sense with the title.

I started this book in August and then put it on hold for a bit because I just couldn’t get into it. I wanted to love it, but it just moved so slowly. Once I picked it back up determined to finish it, I still felt the pace was so slow. I kept wondering if it would ever end. With that said, I was still intrigued to see how it would all play out.

Mia was my favorite of the three liars. I found her story the most interesting and kept reading to see what really brought her to Morris & Wood. Laura got on my nerves a lot. Too much of the book focused on her jealousy and obsession with Mia. Janie was just kind of there until the party scene where we start to get a better understanding of her. All three of these ladies had a reason to start the fire so the author did a good job of keeping her readers guessing.

There is a bit of a twist at the end which I didn’t see coming. The problem is that it didn’t really wow me. I like my jaw to drop at a surprise ending, but I was just like “oh, ok”.

Although this book wasn’t really for me, I have read other reviews of people who loved it so please take that to heart when deciding to read this.

Thank you NetGalley and Gallery Books for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review here and on my blog Samwise Reviews. I enjoyed this book and there was nothing wrong with it, but it didn't blow me away. It had a gentle, meandering plot and I liked that the perspective kept switching between the three women. At each chapter we are given a bit of the police report with the other staff of agency and I found it definitely helped to draw suspense and show the tension between the different parties. Overall I wasn't able to guess most of the secrets and the ending did catch me by surprise, it just wasn't the roller coaster that I had expected.

Thanks to @simonschusterca for sending me a copy of this book!

I really enjoyed this book! I was captivated and hooked from page 1! The novel is about three women and their connection to a fire at an office building! Laura has recently returned to work after her maternity leave, Mia was covering the maternity leave and is staying at the office, which surprises Laura. Janie was a powerful lawyer who is now a stay at home mom! She is missing her role in society as a lawyer, so we can see that conflict inside of her. As we read through the book we learn more about the connections between these three women!

I really enjoyed the discussion around working moms, and she choice to stay home. Laura goes back to work and feels guilty, and her husband stays home and he’s treated like he’s sacrificing a lot, even though Laura makes more money! I thought this judgement and double standards is probably still typical in today’s society, so I liked that the author was willing to have this conversation around gender roles!

I really enjoyed the alternating narrators between the three women! I thought each character was interesting and different in her own way so it definitely helped keep me engaged! Overall a great mystery!

Laura is returning to work after maternity leave and is furious to find that Mia, who was brought in to cover her post, has now been kept on permanently and given Laura’s biggest client but it seems Mia might have had an ulterior motive for wanting Laura’s job. Janie is the wife of their boss, Harry, and is unhappily married and carrying some baggage from her past.

The book starts with a fire at the advertising agency which connects the three women and the story then jumps back in time to show us (from all three perspectives) the weeks leading up to the fire, leaving us to work out both who started it and who has been killed in it.

I thought the premise of this book was really good but unfortunately it didn’t blow me away as it was just too much of a slow burner. It started well but the middle section felt repetitive with not very much happening, and the ending, which I was hoping would redeem some of the earlier slowness, felt anticlimactic after such a big build up.

This book was marketed as a thriller but to me it was more of an office drama with some suspense. It was missing a lot of the edge of your seat stuff that I expect in a thriller. I was looking forward to this one and while I didn’t dislike it, I didn’t love it either. Suspect this book might be enjoyed more by someone who is just trying out the thriller genre. Ah well can’t win them all! Thanks to Netgalley for the ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

3.5-4/5 stars, still don't know how I feel about it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This book had a strong start but was dragging by the end. I enjoyed the use of the police transcripts to help tell the story. I just felt like there was information missing that was vital to this story.

Laura is finally back to work after her maternity leave, however, the person she hired to cover while she was gone has somehow find a way to not only become a permanent employee, but also take Lauras largest client as her own. Laura will not let Mia win. Mia has her own reasons for her sneaky behavior for though, ones she doesn’t want anyone at the office to find out about. And then there is Janie. She gave up her career, and their home to support her husband and his career, but it seems she might be hiding something too. This can’t end well…

Three women, all have a secret. The office has burned down, but everyone is staying silent on who did it. This book had me on the edge of my seat. I used to work with a “Mia” so I could totally relate to the way that Laura was feeling! I wish we knew a little bit more about Mia earlier on, but I did enjoy learning more as the book continued. This one jumped between current day, where the detectives are trying to find out what happened, and the 8 weeks before the fire happened. This was a quick read that I really enjoyed!
