It started a little slow for me but quickly picked up the pace. My 10 year old was assigned this book as a book report and finished it in a couple nights. I thought it was very well-written and researched and handled sensitive topics quite well. Offered up a lot of discussion topics for the classroom. Oh, and it's funny...Ellie's love of chips and tacos and reluctance to like cats was very endearing.

When your kid asks you to read a book so you can talk about it you do it. Bonus if it’s a lovely dog story.

What a cute story about a rescue dog named Ellie. It was heartbreaking and full of hope at the same time.

Book #48 Read in 2015
Ellie's Story by W. Bruce Cameron (YA)
This is an adaption of Cameron's bestseller, A Dog's Purpose, geared towards middle school readers. Ellie is a search and rescue dog and this book details her training and how she becomes a success at search and rescue. The book is told from Ellie's point of view so readers are able to know her thoughts on things like car rides, cats and the people she meets. It was a cute read and had decent black and white illustrations. I received a copy of this book from the Amazon Vine program in exchange for a honest review.

My 10 YO son and I read this book after finishing Bailey's Story. These are both sweet and heartfelt middle grade stories that many 8-12 year olds will enjoy.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's about Ellie, a search and rescue dog and her start from puppy to adult. The story is told from Ellie's perspective and being a dog owner myself, I could really relate to the "dog speak."
