This isn't a bad book, but it's long and a bit too slow-paced for me.

Definitely one you don't want to put down and keeps you guessing. Would say it was a "Horror" by my reading standards but still a really good read.
I compulsively read this in 4 days - I couldn't wait to find out what really happened!
I swear that I had read a Koontz book in the 90s but I am unable to remember which one. Now, I've read/listened to two in the last 6 months.
I really like Koontz. He's not as depraved as Stephen King (with his throw away line in Rose Madder, my last King book, of rimjobbing the Cocker Spaniel. As you can tell, that threw me for a WTF?? moment) so I feel like I can get my awesome dose of horror without feeling like I need a mind scrubbing afterwards. Although, I needed a mind scrubbing because of the Ancient Enemy in the book. It was literally everywhere!!
The ending seemed a bit predictable and I wondered if this was the Koontz book I might have read (probably not). I thought the Kale and Jeeter apostle ending was weird and unnecessary. I think it would have been better if the Ancient Enemy had won and slunk back into the depths of the ocean or wherever it lives until the next feeding. I made lots of comparisons throughout the novel to It and The Blob but it's unique enough to stand on it's own.
The premise, with the unexplained mass wipeouts of specific areas, was fascinating. Loved it!! Loved the characters too and was glad to see my favorites live (although, still would have opted for a mass wipeout).
Overall, great premise and I'm interested in reading more of Koontz's work. There's not a shortage of them, that's for sure!

This was one of my first Koontz books, and there is a reason I went on to read so many.
This book is so incredibly creepy, it was amazing. So good!

Entertaining enough, but not my thing. Can tell it was written by a man; it spoon-fed every detail of the story in plain, drawn-out ways; had a good idea for a monster then made the monster sound like a 10-yr old heckling someone in a video game.
the audiobook narrator sounded too old! Made me lose interest.
- AMAZING READ
- genuinely terrifying
- koontz builds suspense by using detail & follows it up with a killer sentence, almost as if it’s a jumpscare within a novel
- best book i’ve read in years
