I want the focus to be more on Lisbeth Salander. She's the main reason I'm sticking with this series.

Meh. It’s like the worlds’ longest epilogue and you’re continuously waiting for it to get good. I found myself often question - Lisbeth, what’s wrong? Why aren’t you being your normal self? Why aren’t you eating open-face sandwiches? Why aren’t you chain-smoking and fucking random women to get you through the hacking? Why didn’t I get to see how you set up the Harpy alarm? Lisbeth!!!! Imy

I enjoyed it but just could not give a 4th star ("I really liked it")

This was ok. If it wasn't meant to be part of the series continuing the Millennium trilogy, perhaps I'd give it a third star, and it if I hadn't listened to the audiobook, I probably would have DNF'ed. Like the Girl in the Spider's Web, it lacks the dramatic tension from the original trilogy. The author lacks understanding of the characters, especially Lisbeth, which is maybe the most disappointing part, and also the reason it may have been slightly better if I had gone into it not expecting to connect with those original characters. Both of these books touch on some of the canon established by Larssen, but still completely miss the vibe. But while Spider Web was a decent book, this one lacks a cohesive plot - it's all over the place, and I have no idea if the central themes got resolved... or if there even were any. I still can't figure out why Lisbeth, Mikal, or any of the crew at Millennium were really necessary to the plot, and I'm completely baffled about what the Islamist fundamentalism had to do with the twin study. I'm so confused about what actually happened here, that as I'm writing I'm considering lowering my star rating to 1. Alas, I think I've spent enough time on this book.

First of all, let me talk about Stieg Larsson's legacy. When David Lagercrantz continued the Millenium series I had second thoughts but he surprised me with The Girl in the Spider's Web. Lagercrantz is not Larrson, his writing style is somewhat different and the reading experience is not 100 % the same despite Lagercrantz working with the familiar characters. However, he did a very good job picking up where Larrson had left off, despite a lot of pressure coming with the task.
I enjoyed the last book quite a lot, so I was excited to get my hands on more from Lagercrantz. The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye is fascinating. The novel was impossible to put but I still have some critical remarks.
You can tell that Lagercrantz put a lot of effort into the research, but ist still doesn't feel as intricate as the predecessor. First of all, some parts of the story feel a bit thinner in comparison. Moreover, some parts only seem intricate when you don't know much about it. Let me give you an example. There was a lot of stuff about music in the book, so I actually talked to someone who studied jazz guitar. His remarks were a bit disenchanting, leading me to think that Lagercrantz my not know quite as much about the topic as he wants us to believe.
Nevertheless, The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye is a thrilling story with many interesting plot turns. I had three different endings in my mind but I kept guessing right up till the final pages which it might be. To be honest, I was a bis disappointed that Lagercrantz settled for a happy end - I would have expected something darker.

3.5
It took me forever to get through this and I restarted it a couple times, but once I got going, it was fine.
