Incredibly slow moving plot. This is probably my least favorite book of the series so far. There were too many characters and subplots that jumped between multiple timeframes. The last quarter of the book was exciting, fast paced, and what the rest of the novel should have been. It was an interesting premise, but the execution was poor.

I'm not sure where to start, here. I think I have many of the same issues as I did with Lagercrantz's last novel. Blomkvist and Salander just aren't in the story enough. We spend too much time with other characters, and some of the POV jumps are a little ridiculous (I'm thinking of a particular scene close to the end where we jump POV characters in the middle of the scene for no reason at all). In fact, Blomkvist could've not even been in the novel at all and it wouldn't really have changed the story much.

Then there's the plot. Things happen, sure, and there are even two storylines to follow, but...why? The description of this book makes it seem like there will be a huge focus on Salander and her past, but Salender is only really important to the one storyline that has nothing to do with her or her past. The other one could move long without her (or, again, Blomkvist), and we'd still have a novel. This made the climax deeply unsatisfying.

So it moved along quickly, but the entire time I was reading I had the feeling of "this is it?" in the back of my head.

I found this overly long with too many convoluted plot turns and side issues. The writing got bogged down and did a lot of telling instead of showing and most of the violent scenes were just frankly unbelievable. I do give high marks to the narration of the audio by Simon Vance who gave his usual great performance.

The story is mostly good. He is well-researched on twin studies that have happened in real life and kept the details close to the truth. The laziness when it comes to the characters is infuriating. There were so many times when I thought they would just never say/do that. A huge bummer because I didn’t feel that strongly when he wrote #4.

The book felt very much like a continuation of the prior book. That's both good and bad. Because of the way it flows, it doesn't seem to have it's own plot or storyline. The narrative continues, and holds your interest and is well told, but ultimately i felt disappointed. I enjoy the characters and the events, butdidn't feel like it actually had a purpose or satisfactory end. I'm going to continue the series, but i hope the next book has a bit more structure.

Mouais...

Good, but not great. This series is running out of steam.
