This book was written after the core of the series was released and it is mostly in letter format.
It was meant to be a filler and I enjoyed the characters it introduced.
Anne becomes less known for her red hair and more so her character. It’s good to read about her being independent ( not that she ever wasn’t before) before she is off to Four Winds.

👩‍🦰What is true of Anne in all the books is true in this one: her tendency to dream, her fertile imagination, her sense of humor, and her ability to connect with people, and, of course, her tendency to get into scrapes and act impulsively on occasion (in this book, LMM phrases it this way: "Anne went wicked" 😆). All of these are things that I love about the Anne series!

👩‍🦰 I also love LMM's prose, which doesn't get in the way of the story, but is elegant and descriptive when fitting. Her wit and sense of humor and appreciation of wonder shine through.

👩‍🦰Another thing that is true in all the Anne books, that remains true in this one, is that Anne is the focus of the story. That makes sense, of course, but.... I WANT MORE GILBERT!!! The only thing I would change in the whole series would be more Gilbert. He's such a fantastic character, but he gets so little page time, *especially* in this book. This book is written in epistolary style, but it's only Anne's letters to Gilbert. Although, presumably, he is responding to her, we never see those letters. WHYYYYYYYYYYY

Somebody, please. Write a book with Gilbert's responses to Anne's letters. Please.
