Unnecessarily long and repetitive, could use a whole lot of editing.

A bit slow and all over the place, but I loved the movie and this was a pretty solid read.
Not gonna lie, this book incredibly disappointed me. Its written exactly how the author answers questions in interviews. Long explanations for things that should just take a couple seconds, and over piled in words or missing the point. This book disturbed me more than anything, and made me question whether the writer is in the right mind. I hate going away from a "true story" feeling this way, but I'm just so disappointed with the lack of storytelling ability and how much was stated as fact when real records show a different story.
The book is terrible and the only reason I finished it and am currently reading the second is because I'm interesting in the actual ghost story. The author adds to much "fluff", she jumps Around, is incredibly repetitive and talks too much about stuff that has nothing to do with what the story is actually supposed to be about.
Couldn't even get past the first two hundred pages. Very poorly written.

I agree with another review that the author should've left out anything that wasn't actual events in the house. The actual stories were interesting to read. So slow though
suffers from lack of editing. just wait for the movie. I have never said that in my life ever
I don't ever write reviews on books but because it got such bad reviews but the book was GOOD I have to. Yes, the writing was a bit poor but taken as her own style, it was fine to read through. The story itself was GREAT. She used brilliant imagery so you understand how the fear takes over the individual and felt the paranormal experience. As far as the book being boring: it is not. The very beginning before they move into the haunted house is not filled with ghost stories like the rest of the book but it sets a necessary background and it dives into the ghost stories pretty quickly. I would also argue against the book being repetitive, every time she does re-mention an event, it is to look at in a different way or to add to it. I loved this book and can't wait to get started on the next one!
