The Strike Out

Meghan Quinn

4.03 AVERAGE

Loved it. As always, Meghan Quinn slaps. But, I gave it 4 stars because I HATE a surprise pregnancy. It’s the worst. But this book was great. This series has been such a great surprise.

I love these books! My biggest issue with Meghan Quinn's books are that they cause my sleep deprivation. Because they are so good I can't put them down!

You know that your favorite author understand unnecessary angst when they directly reference Hallmark movies and the extended break-ups that happen in the stories! This one has none of that, and is a bit different from others in this series. There was a bit of instalove by Holt, and minor drama from Harmony, but really loved this story.

It runs parallel to others in this series, so you also get to see a bit of Knox and Emory, and some of the other Brentwood Baseball boys.

The banter between Holt and Harmony is fantastic. I adore good witty banter between my MC's. This book had me laughing out loud a lot in the early chapters . It got a lot more serious later in the book. It's always a little frustrating when your main characters get in their own way, but at least in this book it allowed some of the side characters to really shine because of it. I loved that all the people around them didn't coddle them. They straight up told them when they were making a mistake. Priya is such an awesome, fun, and outgoing best friend. Loved her. Best wingwoman ever. Holt is such a genuinely good guy that you can't help but fall in love with him. And Harmony is witty, and fun and sassy, but a bit insecure. I had a few issues with the lack of communication near the end, but overall this was a fun book with some really great characters.

This series is a good one. I like how the characters develop in the background of each book, and then have their own. Unfortunately there becomes a predictability with this many books in a series. I enjoy reading all of them, but they all follow the same format.
Like I said, I am enjoying reading these, it feels like tying up loose ends.

4.5 stars. I ✨LOVE✨ Holt Green… my favorite Brentwood boy.

Not for me

I’m pissed at this book. It started off sooooo good with the banter and wittiness between Holt and Harmony. I thought to myself “oooo this is going to be a good one, I’ll buy it” (even though I have a million free books just begging to be read). However, around the 40% mark I started to get bored. Nothing was really happening apart from him being perfect and then taking things slow. Then this book got super cheesy like I wanted to roll my eyes constantly at the path this book went. Then at 80% this book completely changed and somehow this fun witty book turned into my all time HATED plot. This book tricked me into thinking it was a frenemies type thing and then hits me with THIS awful plot twist. I only tolerate it when I’m warned in a blurb or am reading a trilogy and even then I HATE it.

I hardly ever rate 1 star but I feel hoodwinked and I’m totally returning this book. Thank god Amazon has a good return policy.
