I love these books, but I didn’t like how the main characters were portrayed in this one. Agatha was much harder than usual, and it put a damper on the whole book. Still, can’t wait for the next one!

Oh dear, this was not my favorite. Have listened to a good many Agatha Raisins with my sister over the years, and we've realized that neither the character nor plot has changed much in the decades Beaton has been writing them. Zero mention of mobile phones or internet at all this time around, all characters constantly getting engaged to people within weeks of dating them, etc. Only random mentions of the smoking ban and Brexit to give any indication that this isn't the 80s/90s. Completely unnecessary side plot of Agatha victim-blaming a woman in an abusive marriage. While it has been so nice to have a heroine detective of middle age and flaws, the stories she features in have grown too tired to be much fun.

Always good to visit with Agatha and friends - cozy mystery told at breakneck speed!

3.5 stars - a reasonable read which is definitely in the "cosy mystery" category. Agatha is again completely infuriating yet loveable and I really wish she would end up with Charles already. Although her obsession with getting married to anything male and over the age of 25 is one of the points that really lets her down for me - she doesn't need to fall in love with another man!!!!!!

The plot itself if fairly tame and predictable, but this is not a criticism. It is nice to get into a more gentile story and I enjoyed this one (if only because I am a bell ringer). The characters are fairly well written although a lot of them only feature in this story and so there is not a lot of time for development. I shall continue reading this series however as it is one of my guilty pleasures.
