I love how unabashedly silly this one is!

The Invisible Man starts off a bit like a comedy of errors. The owners of an inn are greatly interested in the experiments of one of their guests, and once they investigate their nosiness reveals that their lodger is an invisible man. The complete disbelief and terror of all the people involved makes the whole thing ridiculous. And Griffin - the invisible man - trying to scare a homeless man into helping him sneak back to the inn for his scientific journals? Comedy gold.
After Griffin encounters Kemp, however, and reveals that he has been working towards invisibility for ages in the hopes of becoming rich and famous, and then upon achieving his goal he suddenly just wants to rob and overpower people, it becomes much less a comedy and much more mad scientist territory.
I was very entertained the first half and then unimpressed with Griffin, like Kemp, in the second half. Also, nothing in the vague process described explains why he would become visible gain in death, but I suppose it's just for the drama of it.

I'm not really sure what H. G. was trying to get at, but this was like a hundred years ago.
