As always I enjoy this series, however this is probably my least favorite. Clocking in at 690 pages it was just too long. I just wanted to know “who did it” and it simply (or rather not simply) took too long to get there! I still recommend it-I just wish it had 200 less pages. I did not care as much about the characters as I should have. I will await the next one and hope it is as good as the others I have read.

I have not read this series before, but for some reason I decided to read the 20th book in the series to start. I really liked it. I am now going to read the series from the beginning.

This was an entertaining read while sick in bed, I took off a star for the awful title though

This book is more than the sum of its parts. It's a complex, burgeoning piece, moving at it's own pace with not a hurry in the world. But like every masterful writer, George knows exactly what she is doing. She has tight control over her plot and more importantly the character developments. Most mystery writers don't bother with character depth and nuance, George does this brilliantly. Read this book if you enjoy murder mysteries but importantly if you like being immersed in a different world which leaves you guessing about human motives until the very end.

Better than other recent books in this series but too long with too many storylines and characters.

I decided to use the latest installment of the Inspector Lynley series for the 2018 Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge prompt "a book that's more than 500 pages." I've been eager to find out Havers' fate since finishing this previous book in the series and this one did not disappoint. It was complex and compelling, with many interesting themes expertly woven into the plot. I found the professional life storylines centering around Havers and Ardery particularly gripping. The pacing of the novel was pitch perfect and kept me wanting to read just one more chapter to find out what happened next.
