No plot just vibes. I had to knock down the rating because the ending felt rushed and confusing. I don’t need everything wrapped in a bow but I wish there was a better explanation for the reader.
Like are Betty and Giuseppe having and affair? Are Linsh and Betty poly? That little tidbit confused tf out of me.

The first third was so slow I nearly DNF-ed this book. However, once it picked up, it actually became a fun read.

This was a complete joy to read. I bothered my husband about 100 times having to read out hilarious lines. It is so funny and sweet, wry and charming. Sometimes I struggle with books that aren't really "about" anything and feel like a series of disconnected episodes, but somehow Reilly ties everything together so beautifully and believably that it feels like I have always known these characters. I am not sure how to eloquently describe this book but it is about identity, love, family and other big themes, whilst simultaneously being an intimate portrait of several interesting and lovely characters. So if that sounds good to you, or you just want a great queer story set in Aotearoa then I say: read this!
