My least favorite, I was curious all the time, liked Bec but the feeling was different compared to the previous ones which made me feel more excited and made me enjoy each phrase. Although I finished it fast it was not caused by the fascination of this book itself, it was more because of the saga and how much I like the other characters, the story of Bec was interesting but It was not bonding...
Bec, a new set of characters come forward, ones we have never seen before (or so we think). An old tale that is set way before Lord Loss happens, Bec is our first female protagonist who bleakly remembers her mother and is set on some whirlwind adventures because of a certain fast boy. Because of this young boy our main cast members meet an old druid by the name of Drust, at first he shows his apathy towards the group, but eventually lightens up. Bec is told her fate to remove the Demonata from their land, but risks her life to do so. A tragic ending is at foot.
This book was extremely interesting and puts a huge twist on the series as a whole and makes us question, will Bec appear later in the series? What will happen to the young boy?
Over all this book was beyond what I had remembered and I adored the old feel to it.

4 out of 5 stars.
Yikes.
To say this book is gruesome would be an understatement. Darren Shan is certainly increasing the levels of gore in this series and I am not complaining.
Bec, as a character, was brilliant to read about. When some men write female characters they feel like a man's idea of what a woman is rather than what it actually means to be female. And there was definitely some of that in this book, but I think that may be due in part to the era the book is set. It's set 1600 years before book 1 and that's early 2000s.
She was still a nice addition to the cast.
The one thing that bugged me was, due to writing style for this series (short snappy sentences. Quick observations.) Bec's voice was very similar to Grubbs'.
Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Glad I've finally picked it up now it's 11 years old.

With this book we’re once again back to finding out the story of Grubbs.
Again Grubbs is developing as a character, although for completely different reasons to those in prior books. Another well-paced book in the series, keeping you hooked from start to end. Moreover, this one ends on a cliff-hanger being part of two books which run one after another unlike the prior books in the series which seem to jump about in time a bit (unless you have read them in chronological order).

Well, Darren Shan is in my top three of most favorite authors, because he creates such great characters, story, and best of all, the blood and guts and horror. Ah yes. And Bec does not disappoint. There was lots of great imagery, and characters. I've read lots of his other books, meaning I'm used to reading from the perspective of other characters, and my point is that Bec is her own person and it doesn't feel like its just the female version of Larten or Darren-she is new and her own character. Also, he does an amazing job of establishing the characters and world. Within the first forty pages, everything is clear and understood, and its easy to differentiate between characters and the story actually begins to progress, but its not like its just Bec explaining it all to the reader. We're able to understand everything through interactions and problems. It was well written, there were a few surprises here and there, and what was really cool was that there was a lot of stuff going on related to the other books in the series, like for example, we get to see Lord Loss and the first time he crosses paths with a chess board.
I think this book is probably the best in this series so far, because I read it and finished it in one day. I couldn't stop reading, so after finishing the book it was 3:00 am. I'm NOT kidding.
So I'm not really a "love" person, but I enjoyed reading the parts with Bran and Bec.
I didn't like the ending of Bec. It was HORRIBLE. Bec deserved a better ending. She did. If you haven't read this book yet, don't worry, I'm not going to spoil you, because I hate to spoil people.
I just realized I already spoilt you. oh...
But anyways, I recommend this series to everyone, even if you don't like horror books, because I don't think this series gives you nightmares. At least I have no nightmares. :)
This might be a horrible review, but I hope you know how I think about this fantastic book.
