My thoughts are somewhat conflicted on this book because while I didn't love it, I also wasn't bored for most of it. Ultimately I decided to give it a lower rating, because I don't think this book had any aspect that I really found interesting.
The beginning of this book was somewhat interesting and I was intrigued, but the execution of the plot and character arcs was a bit lacking in my opinion.
The mystery plot was kind of a joke, because we never really explored it and then all of the sudden Liam just told us the plot twist. Thankfully, I didn't know there was a mystery in this book, so it's not like my expectations weren't met. It was just disappointing, because I did find the mystery interesting when it was first spoken about. By the end I didn't really care about the whole Corby is chasing them plot. The stakes didn't feel that high for me because I hadn't really grown to care for Wynn and Liam. I did care for Lanston and I was sad when he died. That being said I wasn't that sad, because he was third wheeling so hard throughout most of the book, dying kind of felt like a blessing. The fact that he gave Wynn his heart was so stereotypical and wattpad-y. Her whole heart condition felt like it was only invented to have that moment, because it never caused any other issues.
The whole "unorthodox" mental institution was really unbelievable. I get that it's a book, but it was obvious this institution wasn't trying to get them better. Some things that made that very clear was the (almost) encouragement of a new addiction - sex, and Jericho guilting Liam when he hurt himself. Making the patient feel even worse about himself really is going to help. I'm also not fond of the message that people can be a "cure". This is a dangerous message to send because while people can and will help, you will become extremely dependent on them if you do not solve your own problems. Liam and Wynn don't solve their problems they just cling onto each other, which could become toxic very quickly. In other situations, this idea also makes a person extremely easy to manipulate.
As I've mentioned before I didn't really like Wynn and Liam, I also didn't feel the chemistry (Lanston was so much better). Their love was very insta-lovey, but the author tried to drag it out by making them "hate" each other, which didn't really make any sense. Overall, I just found them very bland. I also don't understand why there was a love triangle, when it was clear from the start that Liam was the one for h
Wynn.
The writing was below average. That Harlow was "unorthodox" and that Wynn had pink hair were repeated way too much. I also could not help but cringe at some quotes such as:

"Did I reach you?" He touches me delicately. It's the first ray of warmth he's shown me. And that makes me really fucking sad too. "Yes, you did."
And especially this one:
"She's special, Liam. I know you like her, but be careful, her mind is her worst enemy and love might be too overbearing on fabric as thin as hers." My brows pull together. "Fabric as thin as hers?" "Yeah, her soul is like chiffon, with plenty of tattered rips and tears. The fabric of our souls is thin and worn. We must be gentle and love tirelessly." He leans back in his chair and threads his fingers together. A warm smile spreads across his face and I know then that he loves her too. "Hers is so beautifully torn that even wolves like us are drawn to it."
Overall, this book definitely has an audience, but I don't think I'm a part of it. That’s not to say it’s badly written from every angle — I do think some people will resonate with the themes or the emotional dynamic between the characters. But for me, the writing felt weak, the romance didn’t land, and the message was at times a bit reckless. If you’re into dark romances with dramatic twists and don’t mind overlooking realism, you might enjoy this more than I did. There is a second book in this series about Lanston, and while I did love him, I don't think I will read it.

Man I hated this book haha 1.5 ⭐️ is generous. The writing style was so sloppy and there is such minimal plot. Genuinely should not have read it.
