The images are crazy, and the creativity it took to create this manga is unparalleled. I personally however realized I’m simply not a fan of Lovecraftian horror. I wanted to get attached to the characters, but couldn’t (which I believe is on purpose). I simply don’t think I was the right audience for it, but I can definitely recognize the quality of the craft.

Spirals are ruined for me thanks to this manga. As a horror fan, I enjoyed reading this.
Otroligt läskig och obehaglig emellanåt - ibland kommer jag på mig med att bläddra tillbaka till särskilt obehagliga och groteska bilder för jag helt enkelt kan låta bli att se det hemska en gång till. Junji Ito lyckas skapa en otäck skräckatmosfär hela vägen genom och den känns kreativ och annorlunda.
Något jag däremot gillade lite sämre är att boken är uppdelad i olika kapitel, som alla innehåll en skrämmande händelse eller ett tragiskt öde - och det känns som att dessa olika händelser inte riktigt hänger ihop i ett större narrativ som driver händelseförloppet framåt i staden. Saker som händer i ett kapitel påverkar inte vad som händer i ett annat i någon större utsträckning, även om det finns referenser till saker som hänt tidigare. Om resterande volymer fortsätter såhär finns det viss risk att konceptet kommer bli lite tråkigt eller uttjatat efterhand utan en sammanhängande story.

This was my first time ever reading a book by Junji Ito. I read it such a long time ago but it stills resonates in my mind like the first day I read it! It was such a twisted, yet delightfully tempting read. I plan on going through and reading all the books in the Uzumaki Series!

Oh my god. The artwork is absolutely stunning and the simplicity of the storylines of each chapter is very reminiscent of a campfire story to me. As a gal who grew up on Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, this was a delightfully grownup relative. I can’t wait to get my hands on more.
