With a title like "Neon Gods" and a Hades and Persephone pairing, there are certain things I expect.
A world where the Greek gods are out publicly and with their powers is the base expectation. But instead, this is a city where the different areas are controlled by people who hold titles that tie to the gods. No one has the magical powers of gods, just the titles. And because of that, this is just a run of the mill romance with reused names. I picked this up hoping for so much more than it is.

This was a fun read. Katee Robert never disappoints. Before this I read her Wicked Villians books and I gotta say, she really knows how to tell a good, sexy story.

Always love a good Hades x Persephone retelling. Is it the best retelling? No. Is it the worst? Also no. If you’re looking for a smutty retelling then this is the one for you. This book does contain voyeurism, which I’m not a fan of, but I was able to push past it. Some of the plot seemed rushed but it’s also easy to follow if you understand the general idea of Hades & Persephone’s story.  I’m curious to see how Demeter’s character develops over the next few books. The ending with her seemed too good to be true. I also wish we got more of the rest of the 13…Poseidon, Apollo, Aphrodite, etc.

My rating would be slightly higher but I just could not stand the voice of one of the narrators, Zara Hampton-Brown.  I know this is trivial but it made me at times not want to finish the book. Persephone’s pov was fine until she attempted to do “Hades’” voice. It was honestly terrible. Everyone has their perception of what characters sound like in their head when they read & audiobook narrators can sound different than what you expect but in this case, it was horrible. She gave pauses in his sentences that made zero sense & it made Hades sound unsure of himself half the time. The way she perceived his character versus how the male narrator perceived his character were drastically different. And the way she pronounced Zeus…”zeeeeooooosss”…highly irritating to my ears.

Overall the book was okay…I’d highly suggest reading it over listening to it though.

I did enjoy this book, but I feel it could have been written better, it felt as if the sex was the main plot point, and it had an anti-climactic ending.  I didn’t really gain anything from reading it. If you are a lover of Hades and Persophone retellings, you will probably like this. Sure, it's not the worst book, but I probably won't be suggesting this to someone, unless they like smutty books. For a book that has reviews for being very sexy, and kinky, it's pretty tame.

I read this book with some of my friends, and we all enjoyed it a lot! I loved this book, and I had a lot of fun with it. It wasn't as spicy as I expected it to be, which I was disappointed by at first since that was what drew me to the book in the first place, but to be honest, it didn't bother me at all by the end. I enjoyed the story for what it was, even if it wasn't what I expected. I loved both Persephone and Hades, but I will say that I was much more into Persephone. Hades was great, just not my usual type, but I loved him regardless. My biggest complaint is
that we didn't dive into Hades trauma as much as I wanted to. While we know what happened in his past, we never get details, and I wish there had been a scene where we explore that through Persephone learning more about him. I think it would have done wonders for my understanding of his character.
That being said, that really is my only complaint about this book. Everything else was great. The side characters were wonderful, and all very well developed, which I was happy to see. I love when the side characters in romance novels feel just as real as the two main characters, because that doesn't always happen in the genre. Hades was so sweet, and I really loved watching his romance with Persephone bloom throughout the story. I also loved the subtle references to winter and summer and how the book plays with that concept. It was very subtle, but it was there if you pay enough attention, and I thought it was clever. I am also very intrigued by the world created in this book. This city of Olympus is such an interesting concept to me, and I was not disappointed by how this book portrayed it.
