A pleasant light read for this time of year - nice atmosphere, engaging protagonists - but a motive that stretched my credulity, an implausible set-up, and an unlikely tangle of relationships between the characters that not even the parochial setting made believable. As for Emily's decision - no, just no. I felt cheated.
• This was fun!
• The motive for the murder was a bit iffy, though.
• (I listened to this as an audiobook because I was ill and my eyes hurt).

3.5 ⭐️
I really enjoyed this book. It was so interesting not to have a Christie book from Marple of Poirot’s point of view but from the supposed murderer’s fiancé. Emily Trefusis was such a great character - a prime example of chaotic good - and her balance of personal and conversational sleuthing to Inspector Narracott’s factual and evidence based police work.
***SPOILER WARNING***
Gotta love that in the end Emily picked the guy that would make the better male-wife simp for her being the strong independent girlboss she is.

Lâu rồi mới đọc 1 cuốn của Agatha Christie mà cuốn này chán quá :(((
It's a snowstormy night and six people have gathered at the Sittaford house for dinner. Someone suggests a seance and the six gather around a table to hear a message spelled out that claims someone they know is dead. Captain Trevelyan lives six miles away and the snowstorm has made the roads impassable. But the Captain's friend is concerned and decides to make the trek to the Captain's house on foot. He arrives too late, the Captain is dead, obviously killed quite recently.
The local police get the assistance of Inspector Narracott who is stumped. How did Captain Trevelyan's death get foretold at the exact time it was happening? It couldn't have been any of the six people as they were all together and a blizzard kept anyone from traveling long distances. So who could have killed the Captain in a blizzard and why would they want to kill him? A few people rise to the surface as suspects but nothing and nobody feels quite right to Narracott. Is this murderer going to go free?
I really enjoyed this one. I thought it was clever. I actually think I have read it before because the closer I got to the end and the reveal the more I was accurately guessing specific parts of the story and the characters involved. But since I'm not entirely sure I have, it doesn't go into the "reread" category for me. Agatha Christie proves, once again, her genius in subterfuge and pulling off what most would call impossible.

Can't believe Agatha Christie invented the girlboss x malewife dynamic
