This book blew my tiny brain to pieces. It was so incredibly written, Trent Dalton is such a talented story teller, like man does he have a way with words. It was filled with light and darkness and so much hope, especially at the end. This book lived up to the high bar Trent set himself with Boy Swallows Universe and I can’t wait for his next release! ⁣

3.75. This book is enjoyable and the storyline is interesting however, it takes so damn long to get to the point!! The descriptions and writing are definitely transportive, but you’ll definitely need a lot of time on your hands to actually enjoy this book. The second half/ ending was really enjoyable, the beginning was just extremely indulgent writing that had little story progression. The ending definitely worth it though.

I really wanted to love this book because I adore Trent Dalton’s writing style and the characters he creates but this book wasn’t quite it for me. It was an ok read but not great. I really loved the cast of characters and the story but it felt like it dragged a bit and could have been at least 100 pages shorter and tell the same story… it was still an ok read but not my favourite book by Dalton.
