Liked it a lot! The first little bit was kind of a struggle, but once it got to the big time skip (which was jarring!) I got really invested! It took a totally different direction than the first book did, and it was very good. It felt a little bit like the author had an incredible idea for the 14 years later, most of the book, but didn't quite nail the beginning of the book that got us to that point. It felt a little unbelievable/clunky. But once we got there it was great! In particular i really liked all the exploration of what it meant to be a person and also a god, and how the two "people" in one body overlapped and took over each other, and how they also were separate too.

I love this book, and I loved The Unspoken Name. Reading this was just like squeezing my heart because of how much I loved all the main characters, Larkwood truly does a phenomenal job of building deep care for the characters. The setting is like nothing else, the Maze is one of the most unique and compelling settings I can think of, and what I loved most is that the plot feels utterly organic, and yet like nothing you would expect. Cannot wait to re-read this duology when I'm 46.

The first book really captured my imagination. The sequel isn't bad by any means, but it felt a bit disjointed? More like two novellas compressed into one. While I enjoyed the various components of the novel, it just didn't feel as tightly plotted as the first.

Solid book that drags a little in the middle. Loveable characters, deep conflict, gods and mortals and epic fantasy of the first order.
