After so many Temperance Brennan novels, they all start blurring together. I figured this one out in the first quarter of the book and just kept waiting and waiting for Temperance and Ryan to catch on. Maybe I´ve just grown out of these books.

I have loved this series from the very start, even though some of the forensic schtuff 'got into the weeds' in the beginning and I had to do some skimming...yes, I admit it....but the story and characters have always been superbly strong and wonderfully written, so I didn't give up on the books even when I kept asking, "What was that middle part again?".
Reichs has eased up on the uber-in the weeds speak, but still imparts the action in the morgue or forensic anthropology lab and moves the story along.
This one had me wanting to first hug Tempe and then smack the person who was throwing fire her way and causing the public and the people in charge to doubt her abilities after all that she's done. She even started doubting herself and that just pissed me off. No one does that to Tempe, dammit!
I liked the back and forth in time, from her captivity and trying to figure out what has happened to her to be in this predicament, to the going back a few months to tell the story. I can sometimes get lost when the author does this to the story, but not this time. It's handled really well and almost necessary to tell the tale.

This is five not in the weeds beans.....

Brilliant new book! Didn't even know she had a new one out. Really adored it. Brilliant plot, only thing I thought was bad was that I wanted to see more Ryan/Brennan interaction but that's okay cause it worked out all okay!

I kinda guessed who it was behind quite soon, I mean it was pretty obvious that Briel hated her! & the mentioning of Joe where too appropriate.

Book 12! This one is all about the writing. It grabs you write away in the first chapter, and keeps you reading all the way through. Waking up in the darkness underground is always frightening. And I think we all have that one person at work who is just too ambitious!

This novel is written in a slightly different format than the other books in the series. It starts with a flash forward to the end of the story and contains a couple continuations of the flash forward throughout the novel. This made the story more interesting. Only problem with this book is that I was able to determine who the “bad guys” were well in advance of Brennan.
