Never have I connected with a protagonist like I did in this book. To have hunger and the struggle against it define one’s life, and to arbitrarily punish oneself for personal sins based on a moral code that helps nobody. It captures the manic nature that effects so many so perfectly. I loved it
Brutal. It's surprisingly funny, and the episodic nature makes it addictive reading, but there's points that are just unrelentingly depressing. Reading this is like watching a deeply damaged mind crawl inside itself and make a home there. Powerful stuff.
