This book is solid, using some common tropes and situations. The characters didn’t seem real to me, more like sketches or templates.

Since all the Greene brothers found their happily ever afters, I didn't expect to like this as much as the previous books. Now, I know better than to doubt Michaels. I was blown away by how much Lachlan and Rocko made sense as a couple in this book. I loved Terry and Benjamin in the book. By the way, didn't Benjamin's mannerisms remind you of Alan Rickman as Professor Snape or was it just me? As soon as Benjamin and Rocko met, he was so cold and indifferent to Rocko. I knew eventually everything would work out but Benji was something else. Another thing that surprised me was the epilogue. I thought for sure this was conclusion of this series but it's not.

So I enjoyed this book for the most part. It was definitely a lot lighter than I thought it would be.

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about Rocko/Rylie. I didn't have much of a connection with him in the prior book. It's very clear that he had some things going on in his past that were causing his downward spiral. I was a little shocked at what it was when it came out. I expected something much darker I guess. Not that what he went through wouldn't be traumatic, but I don't know, the lead-up was that it was going to be so much worse.

Lachlan was a little bit of a surprise for me. The L word was used way sooner than I anticipated, but maybe I should've known. The connection he had with Rylie seemed really flimsy to be so attached so quickly. Although, these books do tend to be on the "sweeter" side. Either way, I do think they make a good couple.

I hated the epilogue though. Epilogues should be used to bring together the book with the couple we just read about. We got none of that. Instead, this epilogue is preparing us for the characters in the next book. I have no clue who Akio is and now we are throwing in another character we've not met but is related to Landon. Almost makes me not want to read it.

This book, OMG!

Ok, so if you haven't read the first three books in this series, I highly recommend you do so. Even though this book can be read as a standalone it would make more sense with certain things. Not to mention, we revisit the couples from the other books.

On to Rocko & Lachlan. Rocko is the bad boy drummer for the band Carter's Creed with a reputation that nicknamed him "animal". Sex, drugs, and rock n roll nearly destroyed his life and this book is about his recovery and acceptance of his past. Lachlan is the owner of Golden Entertainment that owns Carter's Creed. After his stint in rehab, Lahclan makes Rocko an offer that he would be a fool to refuse. Thus begins the exploration of their feelings for one another and two seemingly different people who have more in common than they think.

Guilty as charged

Yes I read romances. Gay ones at least. I haven't read a straight one in years....anyhoo...I like this series esp. when one set if characters adopted SD little girl with Ds. The only issue I have at times us how hetronormative the relationships tend to lean. This one really had chemistry between two u likely guys and reading them coming g together was great until we hit the marry me scene.

Another strong offering from Annabella Michaels

I think this may be my favorite book of the series, though it is hard to choose! Michaels has another well-crafted story with great character development that once again tugs at the reader's heartstrings. The writing is so crisp that it allows you to feel Rylie's pain but without it becoming maudlin or sappily overdone. The tone is just perfect. The trauma from Rocko's background isn't as severe as with previous characters and I was kind of surprised that he would have internalized something like that and it would have had such an impact but having fortunately never been deprived of parental love I can't say how traumatic that would be. I love the way Lachlan is written and the strength he demonstrates in helping Rylie.

These books are so well written that I am so sad I'm at the last book. Though I am hoping, based on the epilogue, there are more great Souls of Chicago books to come!
