I purchased the complete set for my daughter and figured I should read them all as well so we can discuss. Two of these were re-reads, but most I had never read. It is a great set of books for children, I hope she enjoys them as much as I did.
I remember enjoying this series, and also the Disney movies. But I read this a long time ago, so I might reread it sometime.
The Magician's Nephew:
3 stars
So I read The Magician's Nephew before any of the others and I liked it! (2016)
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe:
3 stars
I liked: the storytelling and the story. It's also pretty cosy!
I disliked: the gender roles enforced in the novel and the (to be expected) lack of nuance with good and evil... (March 2021)
The Horse and His Boy:
2.5 stars -audiobook
I liked: the plot was interesting. Cool characters and I was happy to see Edmund, Susan and Lucy in this one. I didn't realize we'd see Aslan in this book so that was a pleasant surprise! I didn't hate the didactic (moral instruction) aspects of this book.
I disliked: Villainizing the "Other" (in post-colonial studies this is usually the east being contrasted with the west). This really sucked and was a major reason why I didn't want to read this book. So problematic. Thankfully I was listening to the audiobook so it went by quickly. (July 2022)
Prince Caspian:
3 stars -audiobook
I liked: This story was pretty good! I thought the plot was great! I watched the movie as a child, so there are some aspects I wish were in the book that appear in the movie and vice versa, but I was pleasantly surprised most of the time.
I disliked: It was sometimes slow and Lewis dragged on with the descriptions. This could sometimes be cozy and other times it was too much. And some good ol' sexism.
The neutral: Lewis really brought in the religious parallels in this one lol. (August 2022)

Was fucking long. And slightly crazy. But really good for anyone who has daydreamed about going to Narnia since they were a kid :)
I bought this book used at a thrift store and I love it! It is so convenient to have all seven books in one place. I love Lewis's stories and the world he created in his books. His biblical allusions are present but do not scream in your face of religion. I would recommend these books to almost anyone. :)
