4.16 AVERAGE

One of the few books I've ever thrown in the trash. The ending was (at best) a poorly executed piece of Christian propaganda, and (at worst) a betrayal of not just the reader, but the characters.

Much more than it seems.

“And then Aslan showed up and fixed everything” could be used to describe every book. I read a few of these books when I was a kid & I didn’t remember the religious themes to be as prominent as they are. Also why is Santa a chauvinist? I still think they’re fine kids books but not all of the are equal. Voyage of the Dawn Treader was probably my favorite with the Lion, Witch, & Wardrobe being my least favorite.
adventurous reflective medium-paced

As an adult, the stories were more simplistic and bigoted than childhood memories let on; however, retelling the stories to a friend made me remember how I loved the adventures and characters (especially the non-humans).

C.S. Lewis and I would not have been friends.

I regret not reading this sooner so I'd still be in my return window.

~~~
The Magician's Nephew - **** - Cute but I can see why this isn't the popular installation. +1 star because Kenneth Branagh is a treasure.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Michael York) - ** - 2.5 but I'm being ungenerous and rounding down because it's just SO heavy handed.
The Horse and His Boy (Alex Jennings) - ** - I hate this because this was the best story so far but: 4 stars minus 1 star for being problematic (racist) and minus 1 star for the AND WHEN YOU LOOKED BACK AND SAW ONLY ONE SET OF PAW PRINTS IN THE SAND, THAT IS WHEN ASLAN CARRIED YOUUUU bullshit.
Prince Caspian (Lynn Redgrave) - *** - Lucy clapping her hands in delight all the time was just too much. I zoned out a lot for some reason after Caspian's story got going; just couldn't stay with it. Other than that, this seems like a better developed story but like... I'm tired of being told school is horrible and awful and miserable and we should free children from it and only dumpy girls with fat ankles like school (wtf). I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your time there, Mr. Lewis, but could you maybe fuck off just a little?
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader  (Derek Jacobi) - *** - Reepicheep is 100% the best character in the series.
The Silver Chair (Jeremy Northam) - ** - The head, who by the way was a woman, was utterly incompetent because that's what happens when you let women lead things. And you know, where I come from, we don't think much about men who are bossed about by their wives.
In a way, it's a good thing that I got this as a "box set" in one "single" audiobook, because I cannot see how I would have struggled through all these individually.
The Last Battle (Patrick Stewart) - * - One star earned entirely by Patrick Stewart's mouse voices and dog acting.
DID NOT FINISH
Gave up on this one as too slow...
i pick these up every once in a while and i always put them down with a fresh perspective of the books and their meaning.
I absolutely loved these books as a kid, and read The Chronicles multiple times. I remember my favorite was The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I would like to read them all again, since there's so much I've forgotten about the stories.
