Loved the idea of this novel…. Execution not so much.
Loved all the themes of feminism and trauma and forgiveness but wow were they hamfisted and really beat you over the head with it. Which is a bummer bc I agree with everything that’s being said! I just kept wishing that everything was expressed more subtly. I felt like there was no trust in me as an audience to pick up what was happening thematically without it being said outright.
Also minus points for the lame romance — could not tell you one single fact about this white bread man. Besides that he’s loved her since sixth grade (and continues to now even though they have no chemistry). I seriously kept reading the dialogue thinking wow this is not gonna work bc they don’t like each other and then her internal monologue would be about how hot he is and how good they are together. I was picking up an entirely different vibe that she does NOT like that man
Pacing was weird too, which makes sense in a werewolf novel bc you need to get to the next full moon but I feel like time just kept passing at a fast and confusing rate

As someone who’s always loved werewolf lore, this was such a fun read. Do I wish some of the metaphorical body dysmorphia was fleshed out better? Absolutely. But I still enjoyed reading Rory’s journey.
