This is quite the page turner. Definitely could be triggering due to DV. However you never know what’s coming next and it keeps you on your toes.

In a nutshell: Seem like the perfect guy? Marriage already? Think again!
I was disturbed beyond belief while reading this. I started reading it one night when I had insomnia... Then I ended up having insomnia all night because I had to finish reading it. So word to the wise, don't read this at night.
Newlyweds Jack and Grace seem to have it all. Grace is as her name implies, graceful and kind. Jack is a charming and esteemed lawyer who has never lost a case. They have a beautiful, modern home with plans to add an additional family member with Grace's younger disabled sister coming to live with them soon. They seem to have the perfect marriage. But looks can be deceiving, and behind closed doors, it can be a very different story.
“But the truth is, we never really know what goes on, on the other side of the fence, behind those closed doors. Instead of looking over the fence, we should really be keeping our eyes fixed firmly on our side and cherishing the grass that we have—bald patches and all—just a little bit more.”
I'll avoid spoilers except for this one: if you're triggered by emotional abuse or animal abuse, this book may not be for you. I was triggered in many ways to the point where my already existing insomnia was made worse, so much so that I was disturbed and my heart was racing and I had to finish reading the book the night I started it. So that's my warning.
The characters... pretty believable I guess. Although the marriage proposal seemed rushed and I was surprised Grace said yes so quickly. I believe the characters lack depth, but I don't know for sure if this book was going for depth.
What I can say is that despite the somewhat lack of descriptions used (other than colours... if you read the book you know what I'm referring to), I was picturing the scenes in the book quite vividly. And because I couldn't stop reading until I finished, it gets 3 stars. I was torn because in many ways the book angered me and I read a lot of thrillers and this wasn't exactly "new." But it gets 3 stars because I couldn't put it down.

The NetGalley gods have granted me a copy of this book! #winning
So, I started this book last night, and finished it with my first cup of coffee this morning. Have a few hours on your hands and little need for sleep? This is the book for you.
A brief history of how I felt reading this book (with potential spoilers):
1. Something's fishy.
2. Something's too good to be true.
3. Well, shit.
4. I don't like this I don't like this I don't like this. I'm uncomfortable I'm uncomfortable I'm uncomfortable.
5. I would do a million things differently, if this were me. (But not really. I'd be paralyzed, too.)
6. So how's she going to pull this off?
7. Ah, I see.
8. Time to catch up on lost sleep.

There were so many feelings and thoughts I experienced while reading this book: literal non-stop anxiety, frustration, helplessness, and finally, a sense of justice and relief.
This book had me.. I couldn't help but think of if I was in that situation, how discouraging it would be to try and escape time and time again. It's mind blowing to read just how crazy Paris could make someone out to be. I was MORE than disturbed when reading this book, but HAD to finish it because I was seriously hoping for some kind of justice to be served.
One of my favorite endings to any book I've ever read. 'Nuff said.
