This was the fluffy small town romance featuring a single dad and a badass woman I WAS IN NEED OFF.
Let me just tell you: I have a super important exam tomorrow and all I did today was read. THATS ALL YOU HAVE TO KNOW ABOUT THIS BOOK.
I DEVOURED IT LIKE I WOULD A HOT CHOCOLATE WITH MARSHMALLOWS. It certainly gave the same amount of happy feelings and giddiness.
We follow Colbie, who has to take over her dads construction business after he had an accident, and Jake, who’s working for said construction business and the boss‘ second.
This is the kind of story I just eat up.
Fierce business woman has to go to a small town. Meets single dad. They start on bad terms but eventually, with the help of the charming little kid, the dislike turns into a different quite passionate feeling for each other. AND SHES HIS BOSS.
This book was just a blast to read. It’s the complete package deal: falling in love, finding back to your family but also finding new family.
It has banter. It has spice. It’s pure happiness.
Like snuggling up in a warm blanket.
And the added construction business aspect just made it into something unique and so intriguing! We stan a woman with a tool belt.
Also - we got healthy communication from everyone (still in awe about that one?), which I could hug the author for. They talked, just like normal adults. Not many romance books are able to do that, as it seems.
But this time, no one slapped me in the face with miscommunication here. Thank god.
If you are in your small town era, just like me, or you feel like you need to enter it: this is a must read! You get everything that the small town promises from swoony hot construction worker over gossipy café owner to found family and finding a home.
I’ve never read a book by the author before, but I SEE YOU JENNIFER. YOU‘RE ON MY RADAR NOW.
Colbie, Jake and Robbie just warmed my heart reading about them. And I also swooned every other page for Jake cause that man is just pure goals. It’s not a want at this point - it’s a need. I need a Jake.
This book is out 2nd March! Go grab your copies then!

This book was meh to me. I finished it only to find out what happened between Colbie’s parents and how the baby mama drama would unfold, but honestly it was very underwhelming to me. Rather than showing me what happened, I was told what happened the entirety of the book - it felt like someone was just talking at me and I could never lose myself in the story.
The beginning seemed to move slow, but as soon as Colbie and Jake got together everything moved lightening fast - very much insta love between our two MCs once they admitted attraction. Also, most of the potential conflicts were resolved relatively quickly - leaving little to no tension build up in the book - while I felt some conflicts missing resolution (mainly having to do with Colbie’s mom).
I’m definitely going to try at least one more book from this author because I’ve heard amazing things, this one just wasn’t for me!
Thank you Valentine PR for an arc in exchange for an honest review

My first Jennifer Millikan novel, and now I'm a fan! The Least Amount Of Awful was a slow-burning tale with the cutest kid that was incredibly emotional, passionate, warm, and heartbreaking.
Within the first few chapters, I was hooked. Their story was heartfelt and beautifully written. Some of my favorite tropes are in this book, and they were all executed really well. Although I've read stories like this before, this felt refreshing and was really enjoyable. All of the individuals were wonderful.
Colbie and Jake were a perfect match because they talked openly about how to solve problems, recognized each other's strengths and weaknesses, and sacrificed their own desires to put each other's accomplishments first. Robbie was the perfect final touch to their relationship.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book, , and I really hope this turns into a series of interconnected standalone books. Can't wait for Georgia and Rhodes book!

“You’re worth the work it took to get you to fall in love with me.”
I had a love/hate relationship with The Least Amount of Awful. Okay, not hate, but more like disconnect. There were times I swooned and cried, but I couldn't fully invest myself into the story or characters 100%. Because of that, I even found myself skimming parts. I do want to try to read Jennifer again though. Maybe it was a one-time thing.

The Least Amount of Awful is my first Jennifer Millikin & I can't wait to pick up more. This was a solidly done small town, single dad trope & I am so excited to read the story two other characters of this book. The book started out as very typical single dad/she's my boss trope, but about halfway through there was true depth to the story & it caught me by surprise. I teared up, TWICE! I enjoyed both Jake and Colbie & yes even the side characters. Jake was a hot but loving dad to Robbie. Colbie, despite some family trauma, is a bad ass bitch running companies and figuring ish out.
what to expect
- small town
- single dad
- she's his boss
- emotional moments
- complex family issues
FINAL THOUGHTS: The Least Amount Of Awful really covered a wide range of family issues while executing the small town/single dad trope so well. I enjoyed all the characters in this book as well. The book isn't too dramatic and low on the angst, but it has some emotional moments that will likely cause you to tear up. Overall, the dynamic between Jake, Colbie & adorable Robbie made this book a solid story!
