Just wrapping my head around the meta of this book: This is a book about co authors written by co-authors. The book is the story of them writing a romance book (in flashbacks) and writing a book now- on divorce. The characters in the book reflect their own relationship on the page- in fact the central premise of the book is that this is the only way they communicate. So I feel confident saying that what I am reading is a relationship reflected in a writing relationship likely reflected in a writing relationship. A bit meta, but works decently well if not a bit head scratching at times. I feel like this could be a play- very character driven. I liked it! But it doesn’t share the same rarefied page as Book Lovers.

I liked the ending of this book but my overall vibe was that this book was frustrating. Some parts were overly wordy, like it was trying too hard. The FMC is annoying as hell. Twice, she basically gets what she wants with Nathan and then immediately pushes him away for no good reason. Success froze her and made her quit writing for 4 years? Give me a break. They wasted four years apart because they can’t have a real conversation. She was right to be annoyed that he would only have conversations through his writing
My reread review and it’s still 5 stars!! I loved rereading this book and just reading Nathan & Katrina’s story again. They really are meant to be 🥹 I really enjoyed how we also got a glimpse into their past! At the beginning the both live separate lives however when they wrote a book in the past together the world wants a second book so they are forced to create and write a second one together even though they kinda hate each other! Katrina is in a relationship with Chris and he’s her agent and he thinks it’s a good idea to write a second book with Nathan and I must add Nathan is single but at the time in the past he wasn’t so nothing went down between Katrina & Nathan however when they rekindle to write this second book after time sparks start to fly it was a joy to read and see them become something instead of “Co-writers” at first they are like frenemies but over time they both ease up a bit to the point where they are friends! Katrina is a little bit unsure of everything at first but over time she opens up and I’m so proud of her from dumping Chris because he wasn’t the one for her! And once that happened it was like she found apart of herself again it feels like Nathan was just waiting for her to be comfortable to progress things between them and when they did it was the sweetest thing deep down they would and will always be something and I loved watching the character/relationship development grow they both know each other so well like better than anyone else does! I won’t say much more other than read it plus it’s a great summer read 🥰
Quotes I loved:
“I didn't need to be in a love story-I only needed to be in love.”
“It's getting the chance to hear from real people who've found themselves in my words.”
“I've never felt so much of her, felt so close to her. Everywhere we meet, my skin is feverish. She enfolds me, leaning into this moment, joining us. I feel like my very soul is on fire.”
Tropes:
📖 Second chance romance
☀️ Friends-Enemies-to lovers
📖 Both authors
☀️ Forced proximity
📖 Right person wrong time
☀️ Angst & Tension

This is one of the more interesting contemporary romances that I've read! It's the first I've read by a husband-wife duo, so it made the dynamic between the two characters, Katrina and Nathan, really interesting. I'm also a big fan of the friends to enemies to lovers trope, which this book captured really well in a way that didn't feel cliche.
This is a *very* slow burn romance, which might not be for everyone, but I found it to be exquisite. At a certain point, I was thinking, omg just DO EACH OTHER ALREADY!! t was kind of torture. But like…good torture? I think? I really did find the writing to be fantastic.
I think this easily could have been a 5-star read for me if not for the way that cheating is addressed in this. My next comment is moderately spoilery, so proceed at your own risk!
I was kind of annoyed by the attitude both characters had around cheating as if they couldn't *possibly* cheat, when in reality they actually were cheating in every way other than physically. Despite this, they each wore kid gloves when addressing the subject as if they were saints for staying within their “boundaries”, as if they weren't the textbook definition of emotional cheating. I could understand this if the authors wanted you to be in on their crimes, but it didn't feel that way at all. Y’all aren’t fooling NOBODY.
I do still think this is definitely worth a read, though, especially if you're a fan of slow burn contemporary romances.

I really should have heeded the trigger warnings for this book. I hate infidelity. It was completely unnecessary to the plot, too. This entire story would have worked as an enemies or friends to lovers. I liked the concept of the writers putting their feelings for each other into the books. But a book about divorce? Really? 🙄 I really should have DNFed this one!
